What is AirCover and what is travel insurance?

AirCover is free protection for your booking, included for every guest. It helps you get refunded or find a new place to stay if you experience an unlikely issue like a Host cancellation, trouble checking in, or a missing key amenity. AirCover is not travel insurance. Travel insurance, on the other hand, is an insurance policy guests in the US, UK, and some EU countries may purchase for an additional premium when making an Airbnb booking. The insurance policy is underwritten by a third party insurance carrier, Generali in the US or Europ Assistance SA in the EU or UK. It includes coverage for trip cancellation, travel delay, medical, luggage, and more. Learn more about what’s covered. 

How AirCover works with travel insurance

Here’s an example of how AirCover and travel insurance can work together.

You arrive at your destination late at night. Your Host messages you saying they have to cancel your reservation. Then you learn that the airline has sent your baggage to the wrong city and you won’t get it back for at least 24 hours.

In this situation, AirCover can help you find a new place to stay right away. If you purchased travel insurance with your Airbnb reservation or booking, you can also file a claim with Generali or Europ Assistance SA to get reimbursed for certain extra things you have to buy while waiting for your baggage, like clothing and toiletries.
