Picturesque cove down a steep walk. Small rocky beach and cafe which hires out deck chairs too. Adjacent to Redgate beach which is closed due to Rockfalls. Kayak and SUP hire, also popular with local coasteering groups. We often go here for our early morning swims to watch the sun rise in this east facing cove.

ANSTEYS COVE CIRCULAR WALK: A moderate walk, with some steep and rugged sections. The walk starts at Kent's Cavern in Wellswood with a lower path that takes you through a woodland area running alongside the very popular Ilsham Valley green. Arriving at the north end of Meadfoot Beach take in the gorgeous views across the bay and Thatcher’s Rock, an island inhabited only by guillemot. Follow the winding coast path up to Ilsham Marine Drive, an exclusive residential area with breathtaking views of the bay. There is a very pleasant sloping grassy stretch here with ample seating to stop for a while and admire the scenery. Thatcher Point and Hope’s Nose, an area of protruding coastline with limestone rocks and fossils and a curving bay can only be accessed on foot, making it a favourite spot of keen walkers, nature lovers and anglers. Continue along the route to join The Bishop’s Walk through woodlands heading towards Anstey’s Cove which can be seen through the trees as you approach it. Take a detour down the hill to charming Anstey's Cove and enjoy a refreshing drink at the Beach Cafe before cutting across the playing fields towards Wellswood and complete your circular walk with a bite to eat in The Kents, a family friendly pub offering a beer garden, range of lunchtime and evening meals, real ales, wines and lagers.

Nestled between Babbacombe and Torquay, Anstey’s Cove is an ideal place to take in the best of the English Riviera coastline away from the hustle and bustle. It’s an idyllic natural sun trap with far reaching views across Lyme Bay to the Dorset coastline. It’s limestone cliffs and lush green hillsides combine with everyday marine life for scenery that’s totally stunning. Off the beaten track, the licensed cafe offers a great range of freshly made food, dairy ice cream, freshly ground coffee, cakes & snacks. There is also a selection of draught beers and wines to enjoy on the outdoor tables overlooking the sea. Sun loungers are available for hire, along with sit-on kayaks and stand-up paddle boards. Anstey’s Cove is within walking distance of the property (10-15 mins) however there is also a car park (cash only). Access is via a steep path so this is not ideal for those with mobility issues. The cove does not have a sandy beach. SATNAV - TQ1 2JE Website: ansteyscove.co.uk

Nestled between Babbacombe and Torquay, Ansteys Cove is an ideal place to take in the best of the English Riviera coastline, away from the hustle and bustle Ansteys Cove is an idyllic natural sun trap blessed with far reaching views across Lyme bay to the Dorset Coastline. It's limestone cliffs and lush green hillsides combine with everyday marine life for scenery that's truly stunning. Now, since you've got this far, here's a little secret! Even though Anstey's is not a tourist trap, it can get quite busy, so there is another beach that is closed to the public, right next door. Once you get to the cove, walk to your right and you will see Redgate beach. There are only 2 ways to access this beach. One is to clamber over the "Keep Out" barrier and down the rocks, and the second is to swim or kayak from Anstey's.
