This is our favourite local picnic spot as very few people seems to have discovered it. There is an informal car park beneath the trees with a small gate leading to the dark woodland beyond. You then emerge into the sunlight and the beauty of the red sandstone takes your breath away. We have spent many happy hours sitting with our backs to the cornfield on its boundary, just gazing at this wonderful building. There is an information board near the surrounding trees which provide the perfect shade if you don't like sitting in the glare of the sun. It is well worth the 30 minute drive from the lodge.
