We understand that COVID-19 may be disrupting your everyday life, hosting income, or travel plans. In this time of uncertainty, we want everyone to feel like they can belong.
Our nondiscrimination policy is more important than ever during these difficult times—no one should be made to feel that they do not belong because of their race or ethnicity. Whether you’re a host or a guest, we know that you may have concerns. Here are some ways both guests and hosts can stay informed and act with inclusion and respect:
Communicate consistently with your guests or hosts. We encourage guests and hosts to communicate any questions or concerns before the stay. Please remember to treat all reservations with the same level of caution, regardless of where your guest or host comes from.
For hosts, we suggest sending all guests this message before confirming a booking:
“In the interest of the health and safety of all my guests, I’m asking everyone to answer the following questions before they book:
- In the last two weeks, have you or anyone you live with traveled to any areas that have been impacted by COVID-19?
- Have you been diagnosed with, or suspect that you have contracted, COVID-19?
- Do you currently have any travel restrictions in your area due to COVID-19?”
Hosts using Instant Book could consider including this set of questions in the pre-booking message, and all hosts can include these questions in their House Rules.
Additional requirements by hosts—such as guests providing supplemental documentation at check-in—must be mentioned in the listing description and be required for each booking.
Guests should also feel welcome to contact hosts directly and ask the same set of questions, especially if they’re staying in a private room with a communal living area. Guests might also want to consider asking about cleaning protocols, and hosts could share the way they’re cleaning their spaces. By asking these questions to every guest or host, you’re doing your part to honor our nondiscrimination policy.

Get in touch if you need to report discrimination. We take reports of discrimination in our community very seriously. If you believe you have experienced discrimination on Airbnb, please submit a report. If we determine that a user has violated our nondiscrimination policy, we’ll take action, including removing their account in some cases.
