Here there are six dams which supply fresh water to Birmingham. They are quite breathtaking to see with many great walks and cycle routes. This is where they filmed the bombing of the dam in the film the Dam Busters. There are bikes available for hire in Rhayader.

Known as DEVILS BRIDGE These falls are really spectacular although the steps are very steep, there is a choice of three routes varying in difficulty. This is a very popular tourist destination and all my guest that have been, come back saying how much they enjoyed it. According to legend, the original bridge was built after an old woman lost her cow and saw it grazing on the other side of the river. The Devil appeared and agreed to build a bridge in return for the soul of the first living thing to cross it. When the bridge was finished, the old woman threw a crust of bread over the river, which her dog crossed the bridge to retrieve, thus becoming the first living thing to cross it.[11] The devil was left with only the soul of the dog.

About Pows Castle and Garden Pows Castle, built around 1200 as a medieval fortress, sits high on a rock above its world-famous garden. Laid out under the influence of Italian and French styles, the garden is overhung with clipped yews and shelters rare and tender plants. It retains original lead statues and features an orangery on the terraces. Remodelled and embellished over more than 400 years, Pows reflects the changing ambitions of the Herbert family, who occupied the Castle from the 1570s. Each generation enlisted artists to grow the family's collection of paintings, sculpture, furniture and tapestries on view throughout the house. One of the UK's most significant collections of Indian objects is displayed in the Clive Museum at Powis Castle. As major figures in Britain's colonial East India Company, Robert Clive and his son Edward (later ist Earl of Pows) looted many of these objects during their seizure of power in India and Myanmar and violent subsequent rule in the 18th century. Clive wealth amassed through the East India Company remained at Powis, contributing to later modernisation of the Castle and Gardens that transformed Pows to how it exists today.
