The Bear River Massacre Site is a place of great sadness. On January 29, 1863, more than 400 Shoshone people were killed by the U.S. Army in what was one of the deadliest massacres of Native Americans by the US government. The site is now a National Historic Landmark, and a memorial to those who lost their lives.
