This is the place where famous Viareggio's huge floats are given birth. It is a big elliptic square surrounded by 16 hangars and the Museum building. In the hangars, local masters of float building do work during the whole year to ensure the parades to be spectacular: they are 15 meters high and are usually open to the public during Carnival periods (second half of september-early october in 2021, due to pandeic postponement). Cittadella del Carnevale is a marvellous for children but also for adults who long to take part to the Carnival parades and would like to have a preview of the floats: be prepared to be amazed! I also highly recommend to also visit the Museum building at the end of the square: it is organized as an historical tour through the origin and development of the famous Viareggio festival. Entry to the Museum is €3 worth, while the Cittadella is free access

Viareggio Carnival tickets are available online
Booking tickets is mandatory, due to Covid-19 restrictions on the number of participants. Nonetheless, given that the Carnival parades are outdoor in the huge central seaside avenue of Viareggio (so called "Passeggiata"), limitation of numbers are expected to be expanded in future months.
