The Animalarium at Borth is a collection of rather unusual and highly interesting animals to amuse and delight your family! They have domestic and farm animals which you can pet and feed in the petting barn plus there are more exotic and endangered species in the larger enclosures, where the good folks here breed animals in safety whose natural wild environment is under threat. A great way to keep the beautiful beasties going! There are lots of fun attractions and fascinating daily activities for you guys to enjoy, like hands-on Reptile shows where you can take a turn touching and stroking the cool lizards and snakes, plus feeding sessions for the Crocodiles, Big Cats, Owls and Meerkats! You can also get in on Bunny and Pony grooming sessions and all these activities include a talk about the animals and a question time, and these bonus bits are all free! There is also a great indoor ball pool suitable for under 8s with rocking toys and a toy crocodile and if the weather's behaving itself then you've got 2 outdoor play areas with climbing structures, slides and an outdoor sandpit with 'sit on' diggers. There is a special Wendy House just for the 5 years and under crowd too! So plenty for everyone to see, do and play with!

The entry to Llanfair Slate Caverns, this old but significant and famous slate mine, is through the majestic main tunnel, under the spooky twin arches of the crypt, and into the lofty cathedral cavern! High adventure, only really low down! Remember that the tunnels and caverns you are about to see are all man made over a 100 years ago with only a candle for lighting so best for competently mobile kids not too shy about the dark! Descend Jacobs ladder and wonder through the tunnels and chambers, and look for the old drilling holes, and the likeness of a human face in the mighty no 6 cavern. It might be stating the obvious but if your children aren't keen o the dark, or being enclosed, this probably isn't a good idea. As you emerge from the caverns, you face the breathtaking view of Cardigan Bay, from the Preseli mountains in the south to the Lleyn peninsular. Look down at Shell Island and the Artro estuary, and at low tide trace the fourteen mile long natural causeway of St Patrick. Coaches welcome, special rates are available for parties. There's a children's farm park right next door and a picnic area is also available so why not make a day of it and do everything?!

The Children’s Farm Park is set on the gorgeous Cardigan Bay coastline in the heart of the Snowdonia national park with stunning countryside views all around. The view inside is just as lovely as out, as you come face to face with lambs and calves that you can bottle feed in the spring! Before you wander around the farm don’t forget to pick up your animal feed from reception to satisfy the hungry mouths of the goats, chickens and ducks you’ll meet along your way! Once all the feed is gone there’s lots more for children to enjoy, from a ride on the junior tractors, the indoor sandpit to air cannons and crazy golf! If you’re enjoying the fresh air why not keep walking along the nature trail and see what other native wildlife you can discover! A beautiful spot for nature and animals!

Delve around the secret underground world of a Welsh slate mine, with one of Wales' top Mine Explorers; abandoned and forgotten yet full of relics, stories & adventure. The trips take you into parts of the mine, hand-dug and worked by Victorian miners in 1836 and areas worked up until the 1970s when the mine was abandoned. As the door shut for the very last time a virtual time capsule was left behind which you can now explore. After years of research, the top Mine Guide will share stories of mining life as you explore the underground with some climbing and scrambling if you wish (these parts of the trip are optional). All of the trips run with a small group of explorers which means that they can largely tailor them to suit your wishes, interests and abilities and those of the other members of your group. You'll discover old mining tools, machinery, drinking vessels, candles and cigarette packs discarded by the miners whilst stories of life in the mine spill out in such a way you can almost feel it creaking back to life. 100% authentic, adventurous and fun. There are 3 trips available, a 1 hour Mini Mine Explorer which is great for younger explorers (8+), a 2 hour Maxi Mine Explorer (10+) which takes you deeper into the old slate mine workings using ropes, ladders and your hands and knees. There is also an Exclusive Mine Expedition (13+) which is likened to an off-piste adventure taking you into newly discovered areas of the mine. This exclusive expedition is for groups of 6+ only.

There are not only hundreds and hundreds of exotic butterflies of all sizes flying freely around the facility, but also unusual insects too and giant caterpillars, plus really rare and exciting plant life at The Magic of Life Butterfly House! It's a wonderfully immersive and relaxing environment that most kids will adore. FYI the best strategies to encourage them to land on you are wearing bright clothes and standing very still! Depending on the age and attention span of the kids you can wander freely and enjoy spotting the beautiful insects as you go or you can make full use of the informative boards and track down literally every stage of a butterfly's life from pupae to peacock wannabe! It's a fantastic educational resource as well as being thoroughly fascinating throughout, ideal for all ages! And wonderfully because of the maintained environment there are just as many butterflies around to watch during the spring and autumn as there are during the summer. Hooray! What a nice way to brighten up an off season day. And if you fancy extending your adventure a little further why not take a map along and explore around the Rheidol Valley, where you meadow and woodland walks and a few waterfalls! Brilliant territory for a family ramble, though if you think the real world wildlife will be a patch on the collection indoors, you've got another think coming!

The Corris Railway was the first narrow Gauge railway in Mid-Wales, built in 1859. The train runs almost every weekend, with other periods of availability during the summer, but it's always best to call ahead if you're making a special trip. The round trip taking 50 minutes, including a guided tour of the 133-year old engine shed and workshops at Maespoeth. No single tickets are issued as under planning requirements all journeys must start and end at Corris Station. Passenger services will be steam-hauled whenever possible, but this cannot be guaranteed. Please phone on the day to check which locomotive will be operating. Their trains include provision for the carriage of wheelchair passengers and those with reduced mobility, as does the Museum and Ticket Office. Well behaved dogs are welcome and are carried on the train at the discretion of the train crew.
