It’s about the details here. Like the locally-roasted coffee, and hand-made local chocolate and soap that greet you. Woodhaven is distinctive – solid bronze hardware, hand-made iron curtain rods, stylish designs, quality linens, thoughtful bath amenities and well-equipped kitchen. It’s designed for your pleasure and the comfort of your family or friends. This tranquil cabin sits in a sunny glade among tall trees, a short stroll to the Lakemont Pines private lake and a short drive to ski slopes.

Ambienti
Stepping into Woodhaven, you feel the difference instantly. This isn’t a typical Sierra cabin.

We've brought a Napa Valley aesthetic to this Calaveras wine-country home. Kick off your shoes, relax and enjoy the unique charm and casually-sophisticated furnishings this mountain get-away offers.

Walking in, you enter an open living area – kitchen, dining room, breakfast bar, living room – surrounded by windows and forest outside.

You – and perhaps some kids – are likely here to swim, play on the sandy beach, kayak, paddleboard, fish, hike or bike. Just step outside the door.

Winter? Maybe it’s to ski or snowboard at the world-class Bear Valley Mountain Resort, just 40-minutes away.

Perhaps it’s to wine taste, golf, explore caves, whitewater raft, shop, dine, visit museums, gold-pan or hear live outdoor music.

All this makes Calaveras the 14th highest-ranked U.S. county. (Well above
Napa! ☺)

THE NOT-SO-BASIC WOODHAVEN EXPERIENCE . . .

While settling in, open the sliding glass door to the large, sunny deck and breathe the fresh mountain air. Sit in the comfy outdoor furniture while sipping complimentary chilled California chardonnay awaiting you.

Ready to freshen-up for dinner? Step into the tastefully-updated bathroom. Gaze at forest while showering with luscious, local hand-crafted goats’ milk soap. Then slip into a fresh, luxury cotton bathrobe.

Reconsidering dining out? Sharing food and wine around the large, inviting dining table overlooking woods certainly makes for a lovely evening.

You’ll find a well-stocked kitchen, quality cookware, forged steel knives and individual condiments. It’s great cooking with the Bosch gas stovetop and electric oven.

After dinner, lounge on the couch under the cedar ceiling – fire blazing – with a book and cashmere throw. Sip a hot drink we’ve provided. Perhaps enjoy a board game or movie.

Then, step off hardwood floors into stylishly-furnished, carpeted bedrooms. Curl up in bed with a book and nightcap as you ease into a cozy, restful night’s sleep.

Opening curtains in the morning, you’ll stare up from bed through trees outside your window.

Lazy morning? Not going out? You’ll find cereal, oatmeal and preserves to start your day – and teas, hot chocolate, and fresh, local award-winning coffee to brew.

We trust it’s just the beginning to yet another enchanting day in the Sierra.

Qasja për vizitorët
During your visit, you will have entire access to Woodhaven and the surrounding property. If it’s summer, it’s likely that your primary concern will be access to the lake. And there’s certainly plenty to access at the Lakemont Pines Lake and recreational facilities…

▪ Sandy beach
▪ Kayaks
▪ Canoes
▪ Paddle boards
▪ Paddle boats
▪ Beach and water toys for the kiddos
▪ Fishing for bass and bluegill
▪ Life jackets
▪ Snack shack
▪ Picnic tables
▪ BBQ
▪ Shuffleboard
▪ Ping pong
▪ Horseshoe
▪ Basketball court
▪ Playground with climbing structures
▪ Lodge access
▪ Lifeguards
▪ Lakeside trail

Lakemont Pines is a private subdivision. Lake amenities are available for the exclusive use of residents and their guests – meaning you. Guests will have complete use of the lake, private sandy beach and all the other amenities it has to offer. The Lakemont Pines recreational facilities officially open on June 16th. Lifeguards are on duty then and the snack shack is open. If you’re coming with kids, they can literally spend the entire day just hanging out at the lake during the summer.

And by the way, if you’re checking out other areas in Arnold, keep in mind that if you rent in Blue Lake Springs, you’ll need to pay an additional $300 per week for access to their lake. At Woodhaven, there’s no charge for accessing the lake or all its amenities. If you’d like, you can spend all the money you save at the Lakemont Pines lake snack bar – which would likely amount to several weeks’ worth of hot dogs and ice cream!

Gjëra të tjera që vlejnë të përmenden
Your enjoyment at Woodhaven is our PRIMARY concern.

Here are a few things we think you’ll want to know…

✔ SIZE MIGHT MATTER: Although this cozy cabin has a roomy feel with the open floor plan, keep in mind that it is cozy. It’s 800 square feet. And although it’s a very comfortable 800 square feet, it’s not huge. There are two bedrooms and one bath. In terms of sleeping guests, we’ve comfortably housed and slept three kids in one room and two couples on the two queen beds – one in the master bedroom and one in the living room pull-out sofa. It is close quarters, so you’ll want to make sure you’re close with the people you stay with here!

✔ STEPS: Part of the charm of the cabin is that it’s nestled in a sunny little glade in the woods, down a small hillside. But that means guests need to be able to get down to it. There are stone steps leading down to the entry – 42 to be exact, although they're short stairs. These are perfectly fine for anyone who is able-bodied, but could be challenging for someone with physical limitations. (And of course, it’s not just getting into to the cabin, but the steps necessary to climb to leave!)

✔ DISHES: There are a couple of things you might be used to that you won’t typically find in cabins up here – like a dishwasher. Fortunately, there’s a lovely kitchen window at Woodhaven you can look out of onto the woods while you’re hand-washing dishes. (It can actually be quite relaxing. And just recently, we saw a jack rabbit out the kitchen window while washing dishes.)

✔ AIR CONDITIONING: The other thing you might look for in summer is air conditioning. Like most cabins up here, we don’t have it. But like most folks here, we’ve never felt like it was needed. We just keep the windows and doors open – and if necessary, the ceiling fan running. That’s usually very comfortable. And then, in the evening, the cool high-Sierra summer breeze kicks in and lowers the temperature and it’s quite nice.

✔ PHONE SERVICE: Well, you’re in the mountains and phone-cell service can be pretty spotty. Verizon, however, is quite reliable if you walk or drive to the lake. (There’s also free Wifi at the lake.) If you require cell service, we recommend you have WiFi calling enabled on your phone and use Woodhaven’s WiFi. We will not provide refunds because of PG&E, internet, or cell-tower outages – which can sometimes occur in the winter and are, of course, completely beyond our control.

✔ WINTER ACCESS: Please keep in mind that this is a mountain cabin. So, when you’re visiting in the winter, be prepared for winter mountain weather. That means that during heavy snow storms, you may need chains or 4-wheel drive to access Woodhaven. If you are arriving in winter, please remember to carry tire chains (even if you have 4-wheel drive) and be prepared to put them on if weather conditions require. We will not provide refunds due to weather conditions, but we will be happy to re-book a trip in advance due to heavy anticipated snowfall.

✔ PUBLIC SAFETY POWER SHUTOFF: Due to the recent California wildfires, PG&E is implementing precautionary measures to help reduce their risk. If extreme fire danger conditions threaten a portion of the electric system serving Arnold or Lakemont Pines, PG&E may turn off electricity in the interest of public safety. Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds because of any electrical outages that occur during your stay.

✔ PARKING: There is a large parking space at Woodhaven off Lakemont Drive. It can fit two vehicles. In the winter, this off-road parking space will be cleared for you. Plow service for roads into Woodhaven is managed by Lakemont Pines in the winter. Please do not park in the roads, which can delay clearing.

✔ LIONS AND BUGS, AND BEARS, OH MY! Keep in mind that you’re in the woods. And in the woods, you’ll find wild animals – or they might find you. Besides the small, cute critters like squirrels and rabbits (and not so cute small critters like skunks), there are also big critters like mountain lions and bears. They’re not often spotted in Lakemont, but they can come around. So, please be mindful of the fact that you’re sharing the forest. Other critters include bugs and mosquitoes. If they tend to like you, be sure to pack some repellent.

✔ GARBAGE AND RECYCLING: We don’t have garbage service. (That helps keep the bears away!) But what that means is that you need to carry out your own trash when you leave. We provide plastic garbage bags, and also encourage recycling in your own community. We also have a green waste bin for folks like us who like to recycle green waste. It’s a stainless steel container under the sink. We provide the green waste bags for you.

✔ OTHER STUFF? Don’t be shy about contacting us if you have any questions about Woodhaven or the local area. We love to help our guests. And we have a local co-host in case any problem or concern arises during your stay. We will be able to address it promptly.

Arnold, California, SHBA

Chances are, you’re interested in visiting Woodhaven for the lake in the summer or skiing in the winter. But no doubt, you’re also interested in all of the other unique experiences Calaveras County has to offer. And there’s so much it offers.

Calaveras County is a four-season travel destination located in California’s beautiful Gold Country and spectacular high Sierra. The town of Arnold, located between Lake Tahoe to the north and Yosemite National Park to the south, is called “the heart of the Sierra.” At the 4,000 foot elevation, you can pursue a variety of activities year round. You can even golf in the morning and ski in the afternoon, all with excellent easy highway access.

Getting to Woodhaven is pleasant – unlike the unpredictable, hours-long, frustrating slog that is getting to Lake Tahoe from the Bay Area. Woodhaven is just a little over two hours away from the Bay. And the second half of the trip is a beautiful, peaceful drive along scenic Highway 4 – first through orchards and then winding through the picturesque Sierra foothills.

As you’re considering a Woodhaven visit, consider this: the Washington Post and U.S. Department of Agriculture ranked Calaveras County as number 14 among the most attractive counties in 48 U.S. states. (And Napa County only ranked 23!) If you haven't been to Calaveras County, you need to come and see what you've been missing. If you've been here before, no doubt you're wanting to return.

As comfortable as Woodhaven is, you might be inclined to just stay in. But of course, you’re going to want to swim, fish, sunbathe on a sandy beach, kayak, paddleboard, hike and bike – all of which you can do by just walking out the door.

No doubt, you’ll also want to explore Calaveras County, which has so much to discover and enjoy. If it’s winter, chances are those adventures will include skiing, snowboarding and building snow people. All of which can happily be done at Bear Valley Mountain Ski Resort, with its world-class slopes, just a short 40-minute drive from Woodhaven.

Here are just some of the other amazing things you can experience in the area . . .

▪ Rock climbing
▪ Wine tasting
▪ Golfing
▪ Whitewater rafting
▪ Boutique shopping
▪ Delicious dining
▪ Cave exploring
▪ Gold Panning
▪ Hearing live music outdoors
▪ Pursuing endless fun and adventure!

We’ve put together a 25-page Woodhaven Adventure Guidebook with pictures, descriptions, instructions, resources and tons of ideas about what you can experience near and around Woodhaven. We think it’s pretty cool, and hope you’ll think so too. We’ll send that off to you after you’ve booked.

In the meantime . . .

Most Airbnb bloggers will recommend that hosts don't go into too much detail about the neighborhood. We think that's rubbish. We believe the more information you have, the better you're able to plan your visit. So, we're going to ignore that recommendation. If you're not interested in reading on, you won't.

But if you are, here’s a summary of some of the adventures we cover in the Guidebook, and let’s start with some of the local stuff you’ll find in the cabin . . .

✦ YOUR SOAP . . . The hand-made goats’ milk soap if from Seven Sisters Soap and Candle Company, in Columbia State Park. It's a great place to visit. Make your own soaps or candles there or just learn about the process. They have the largest selection of soap and candles in the Mother Lode, all hand-crafted.

✦ YOUR CHOCOLATES are from Nelson's Columbia Candy Kitchen, also in historic Columbia – since the 1800s. If you can't visit Columbia where the candies are made, no worries. You can find these delicious candies at their shop in downtown Murphys.

✦ THE WOODHAVEN COFFEE is from Gold Country Roasters. This award-winning coffee roasting company has a café and retail shop in Murphys, with seating inside or out and free Wi-Fi.

✦ WINE TASTING TOUR? It's a scrumptious way to explore the lovely foothills, home to 30 hand-crafted family-owned wineries and 24 tasting rooms that showcase the beautiful terroir. Many have tasting rooms in Murphys within close distance of one another – perfect for a walking wine-tasting tour. Angels Camp and Mokelumne Hill also have lots of tasting rooms.

✦ SPEAKING OF MURPHYS, it was named "One of the Top 10 Coolest Small Towns in America" by Frommers. Besides wine tasting, it's also a unique and memorable destination for shopping, eating, and more. (Don't miss JoMa's Artisan Ice Cream – even in the winter. Yum!)

✦ CAVES AND CAVERNS. The area has amazing caves and caverns open to the public. The closest to Woodhaven are Moaning Cavern and Adventure Park and Mercer Caverns. California Cavern State Historic Landmark has a long cavern system, and is one of a few U.S. caves with expeditions up to 80 minutes long. A memorable one can take you and your kids with only cave helmet lights.

✦ GOLF? There are several great public golf courses nearby, including a 9-hole course in Murphys – Forest Meadows Golf Club – and three regulation par-72 courses. Meadowmont Golf Course, in Arnold, is a 9-hole course with 2,931 yards.

✦ SNOW FUN! Just 35 minutes away from Woodhaven is Bear Valley Mountain Resort, with world-class snowboarding and downhill or cross-country skiing. There's also alpine and cross-country skiing on either groomed or back-country trails, as well as snowmobiling in town.

✦ ROCK CLIMBING. With low traffic Bear Valley rock climbing is pristine. Lessons are available. Box Canyon's great for beginners or intermediate climbers. Hell’s Kitchen’s a bouldering playground and local fav. Advanced climbers like Spicer Terraces.

✦ ZIP LINING. You can do that at Moaning Cavern and Adventure Park. Kids over 70 pounds can zip alone and smaller kiddos can zip tandem with a parent .

✦ WANT TO HUG THE BIGGEST TREES IN THE WORLD? If so, you’ll want to visit Big Trees State Park just 3 miles from Woodhaven. That’s where you can experience the jaw-dropping magnificence of the gigantic Sequoia trees. The North Grove's nearly level 1.5 mile loop is family-friendly.

✦ MUSIC LOVER? There are a number of outdoor music concert series available in Calaveras County – starting with free live music right in Arnold. You’ll also find concerts at Brice Station Vineyards, as well as at Big Trees State Park and Bear Valley. Ironstone Vineyard in Murphys has an awesome summer concert series featuring big names in an award-winning amphitheater.

✦ GOLD MINING. There's a great place to take kiddos gold panning. You ARE in gold country, after all! Hidden Treasure Gold Mine in Columbia State Park. No kiddos? That's okay. This is a fun destination for the gold miner in every one of us!

✦ LOCAL EATS. There are plenty of great restaurants in the area to choose from. We’ve assembled a book of menus of local restaurants in the area – including Murphys – which you’ll find at Woodhaven.

✦ COLUMBIA STATE HISTORIC PARK. You have to visit this Columbia for an up-close view of California’s 1800s gold rush. Basically, the entire town is a museum. With full store-front museum displays, tours, theater, events and shopping, you'll learn lots about the fascinating history of this period in California. Horse carriage rides daily, weather permitting.

✦ MOUNTAIN BIKING JUST OUTSIDE THE DOOR . . . The Arnold Rim Trail is a very popular mountain-biking trail – and it goes right through Lakemont Pines! Others trails in Arnold include Bear Bottom, Calaveras Big Trees/South Loop, and Top Of The World.

✦ DON'T BIKE, HOW ABOUT A HIKE? A short stroll from Woodhaven, the Arnold Rim Trail is a beautiful 17-mile trail system for hikers and equestrians, as well as bikers. You’ll find panoramic views, streams, shaded old-growth forests, a waterfall, wildlife and more.

✦ NORTH FORK OF THE STANISLAUS RIVER — Just 20 minutes southwest of Woodhaven, the north fork of the wildly scenic Stanislaus River features spectacular swimming and tall trees, as well as great opportunities for kayaking, river rafting and fishing.

✦ AND SPEAKING OF RIVER RAFTING... Outdoor Adventure River Specialists offer an incredible Class IV whitewater rafting adventure on the North Fork of the Stanislaus River beginning just 3 miles from Woodhaven! For ages 14 and up, this shouldn't be missed!

✦ FISHING? You can fish for bass and bluegill right at the lake in Lakemont Pines. But you might also want to head down the road a little to the Stanislaus River. It's increasingly popular, boasting beautiful scenery and large numbers and varieties of fish. It's home to rainbow trout and brown trout.

✦ LOGGING HISTORY. The Sierra Nevada Logging Museum offers a great overview of the logging industry founding Arnold. It also hosts the Sierra Nevada Logging Jamboree family event on Labor Day weekend.

✦ ART GALLERIES. If you're an art lover, there's no shortage of art to be seen and enjoyed near Woodhaven. We provide you with a recommended guide.

✦ THE SOURGRASS RECREATION AREA is just 20 minutes from Woodhaven on the Stanislaus River. Besides its beauty, it has a rich history. For over 2,000 years, the Miwuk people lived here seasonally gathering food and fishing the river.

✦ HOW ABOUT A LEISURELY ROAD TRIP? The 61-mile drive along the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway is a spectacular and intimate high-country experience – with fun stops, since it's surrounded by national forest and wilderness areas. It begins in Arnold.

✦ AND WHILE YOU’RE ON THE BYWAY . . . be sure to stop at Alpine Lake, just 40 minutes northeast of Woodhaven. The 4-mile hike around the lake offers a great tour of the area.

✦ LOCAL SHOPPING. When you're downtown Arnold, stop by Fine Things and Peddlers' Market – especially if you like to shop. These two stores have home decor, unique gifts, antiques, accessories, jewelry, cards, art, clothing, hand-painted furniture and more. You'll find something for yourself – or that hard-to-shop-for friend.

✦ READY TO COOK? Big Trees Market has you covered. Just a mile from Woodhaven, you'll find it's as well-stocked as any big-city grocery store –and with small-town friendliness. Deli, meat and fish counter, bakery, organic and local produce and herbs.

Whatever amazing adventure you choose to experience for the day, we trust you’ll love returning to the warmth, comfort and style of Woodhaven at the end of your day.

Hi, folks. It’s nice to meet you – virtually! I’m a devoted single dad and family man – and community-oriented guy. My son is 13 and my daughter is 15. They live with me full time. I’m a psychotherapist in private practice, so I have the good fortune to structure my schedule around our family life. My kids and I have always enjoyed being out in nature, and we all love swimming. The lake is heaven for us. (My son can go to the lake at noon and not leave until nighttime! There’s quite a large gaggle of kids that love playing all day on the lake.) Woodhaven is natural extension of me. I've always loved bringing people together. I'm also a nurturer and like to take care of people (and to cook meals for them – which is my Italian mama in me!). We work hard to create an experience at our lake cabin that makes you feel well cared for. We love opening our doors to our guests who come hoping to create treasured memories with their friends, special someone, or family. We hope you enjoy Woodhaven as much as we do! All the best to you, Will
