White House Tales of Scandal & Intrigue
Join me in exploring the hidden history of the White House neighborhood, Lafayette Square, and its most unusual events and personalities. As part of this tour, you’ll learn about the biggest scandal in Washington's history, which toppled an entire presidential Cabinet. Best way to contact: savvyveteran at gmail dot com Meet in the middle of Lafayette Sq. at the Gen. Jackson statue. You’ll hear stories you won’t hear anywhere else, including: the hidden symbols within the White House's architecture, spies who operated from the Square, the wildest parties in presidential history, the murder of a District Attorney by a Congressman, the enslaved woman who ignited a Civil Rights revolution, deadly duels between military officers, the tragic death of America's first female professional photographer, the untold stories of presidential assassinations, the nation's first and little-known civil war, where the CIA and the space program were founded...and more!
Make a Celebration Ring
We will begin with a peek in the Gallery, featuring jewelry handcrafted by US artisans, and a tour of our Studio School. I will also share some history of our 1890 Victorian-era building. In the workshop, you will use steel letter stamps and a hammer to impress words of your choice onto sterling silver strips. Then, you will form the strip into a circle and solder it together (with help). Finally, oxidize (blacken) the ring, and polish to your desired finish. We limit the workshop to four students to guarantee lots of personal instruction, as well as the opportunity to get to know your classmates. Other things to note Unfortunately, our Victorian-era building is not fully accessible to the handicapped.
Art & Soul of Black Broadway
Discover the musical heritage of U Street --aka Black Broadway-- from jazz to hip hop to punk to go go. Walk the streets & back alleys and learn how murals, theatres, music venues, and memorials embrace the history of this amazing neighborhood. Along the way, we'll listen to a diverse playlist that will match up with the murals and venues. Other things to note: This tour ends at the intersection of 13th & U NW, 8 blocks from the starting point. Typically I hold tours rain or shine, unless the weather posses a safety hazard (lightning, ice, tornado, etc). If a weather-related emergency arises, I will be in contact with the group to cancel, delay, or reschedule. The tour includes long periods of standing and walking outdoors. Please wear comfortable and weather-appropriate footwear and clothing. Restrooms may not be available during your tour; please plan accordingly.

Fall in Love with Virginia Wines
This intimate winery experience is tailored to fit your own wine experience! From a curated list of wonderful wineries, we will visit two in Virginia's picturesque Wine Country - on the relaxing drive though the verdant and colorful Virginia countryside, we'll get to know each other a bit and you'll learn some of the history and backstories of Virginia wine - at each winery, you'll taste several award-winning red, white, and rose wines - following each tasting, we will sit, relax, and enjoy a selection of seasonal wine-friendly snacks often in a beautiful outdoor setting. Plan to stay at each winery for about 1-1.5hrs, with an approx 4-5hr total trip time (including travel time). The day trip is perfect for solo travellers, couples, and small groups - it's meant to be a intimate day with a personal tasting in the beautiful Virginia Piedmont. The Experience can be up to 5 Guest, so there is a chance if you are a solo traveller or a couple, additional wine lovers may join! While I'm a pet-lover, many wineries do not allow dogs in their tasting rooms - I cannot accommodate anyone who wants to bring their pet. Limited flexibility with start and end times. Metro-accessible.

We'll see the home of Washington's doctor, where we'll discuss the ill-fated remedies used at the time of GW's death. Civil War sites will include the Appomattox statue, the site of a fiery skirmish between Union troops and Confederate sympathizers, and the workplace of a famous rebel spy. Also, the market place where Washington lost a fist fight! And the place of GW's mysterious lady friend. As well as the meeting hall where George Mason composed the Bill of Rights to the U.S. Constitution. The townhouse of GW's older brother Lawrence. White House with former Kennedy staffer
This is a walking and history tour that walks the complete outside circumference of the gated portion of the White House. Prior to 09/11, as a former White House staffer, I could simply show my ID and take visitors in for a tour. That perk evaporated on 09/12/2001, and inside tours must be requested through a member of Congress. An external, walking tour is the next best thing to a tour inside, with my sharing features of major rooms in the White House, the West Wing, and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, where my office was when I worked at the White House. In addition to the history of the building and stories about some of its occupants, you get the perspective of a former White House staffer who worked for two US presidents and on the campaigns of two candidates who did not win the presidency. I have met every president who has served during my lifetime, from FDR through the current president. The meet place is outside the White House Visitor Center, on Pennsylvania Avenue, between 14th and 15th Streets, NW. The walk begins by passing through the recently dedicated National World War I Memorial, and proceeds past the Sherman Monument to the Ellipse on the side of the White House, with stories, photographs, and opportunities for questions. Continuing toward the official front of the White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, we pass the first headquarters of the America
