The Olde Village Shop Cottage

The Olde Village Shop Cottage is situated in the pretty village of Startforth, just over the River Tees from Barnard Castle. Our delightful detached cottage has been sympathetically renovated with our guests comforts in mind. The Lounge has slate floor tiles with underfloor heating, independent gas wall mounted fire and gas central heating throughout. 40" flat screen television and DVD player, two two seater brown leather sofas, dining table and chairs. The kitchen is fully equipped for all your needs including electric hob and oven, microwave, kettle and toaster + integrated fridge and washing machine. The flexible bedroom caters as a double , twin or family room comprising one double bed, one single bed, chest of drawers, bedside tables, wardrobe and flat screen television. Our Bijoux patio accommodates table and chairs along with colourful shrubs and herbs, street parking only. As you will see from the attached photos the cottage has been decorated to a high standard with a contemporary feel. We love animals and welcome them to our cottage but they are restricted to the downstairs area only. We are very well situated for all the attractions that Barnard Castle and surrounding areas have to offer, 5 minutes in the car takes you to the centre of Barnard Castle or various walking routes take approx 20/30 minutes on average.The walk over the County Bridge and round the Castle is a very pleasant stroll to the town, Flatts Wood and riverside walks. Barnard Castle is ideally situated for exploring both the South Durham Dales and the natural splendour of the North Yorkshire Moors. Local attractions within an hours drive include High Force Waterfall, City of Durham, Newcastle, Beamish Museum, Lightwater Valley, the Kynren spectacular at Bishop Auckland to name just a few, and of course Barnard Castle is the home of The Bowes Museum which attracts visitors worldwide.

Sheila’s Cottage is a beautiful one bedroom stone cottage set on a 25 acre small holding. The cottage is a recently refurbished barn conversion ideally located just 2 miles from the historic market town of Barnard Castle. The property offers plenty of private parking, private American porch style seating area to the front and pretty courtyard to the rear with outdoor seating and dining area. The outdoor areas are secure and ideal for dogs. Maximum one dog allowed. Additional £20 cleaning fee.

As the name suggests, this Grade II Listed building used to be an Inn back in the 1800s. The Pack Horse Inn was the resting place of many a traveller and the stables to the rear of the property would once have opened onto a large grazing area where you could “park” your ponies during your stay! The Pack Horse Inn was one of many Inns that lined the main street of Staindrop during that time but these days we’re only left with one, The Wheatsheaf Inn, which can be found just across the road.
