My favourite places

Welcome to my guidebook. I hope the information I have compiled will give you a good insight regarding what Llanymynech and the surrounding local area has to offer. Whether you are looking for days out, adventures, local pharmacists or hairdressers, you should find a comprehensive list to help you if you are unfamiliar with Powys. If there is anything you feel I may have missed I would be pleased to hear from you so that I may include it in my guidebook.
Fancy a meal out? The Sunday carvery is excellent. Ian makes everyone feel welcome here with its cosy atmosphere, good food and the occasional special events held throughout the year.

A popular traditional country pub that offers good ales and a great Indian menu recommended by many. Plenty of outdoor space and a garden with a play area.

Nearby places to visit

For days out I have included a few of my favourite places to visit. All are within a maximum of 20 mins drive away from Trederwen Cottage
Powys Castle is stunning and well worth a visit. There are many pathways to the gardens below. At certain times the cafe is open in the gardens and there is also a restaurant at the entrance to the castle.

A popular nature reserve. The name is Welsh for "Church of the Monks". Great for walks, dog walking, rock climbers and bird watching. Continuing along the pathway will lead to an 18 hole golf course. The walk is easy with some gentle slopes and keeping to the pathway is generally quite safe. The views are amazing at the top. For the more adventurous there are steeper areas and and old disused quarry so young children need to be kept nearby

Bring along your golf clubs - the course is well worth visiting. Llanymynech Golf Course is situated atop Llanymynech Hill overlooking the villages of Llanymynech and Pant, approximately 9 miles from Welshpool, right on the Welsh/English border. From the course it is possible to view 12 of the old 'shire counties', including Shropshire, Cheshire, Flintshire and Denbighshire. The food and service is excellent.

If you fancy a leisurely walk alongside a beautiful canal absorbing the natural beauty and stepping back in time as you wander along the waterways with information at various points on horse-drawn barges and how the canal was used to ship goods from one county to another. Today you will see many motorised barges along the way and plenty of wildlife. the Canal Central cafe located nearby is a must visit. Parking is available. They do delicious cream teas and hearty breakfasts! At certain months of the year one can hire a canoe to accommodate 3 for only £10 for the whole day. Try it! Check out canalcentral.uk website.
