Powys Castle and gardens are interesting to see any time of year and just 20 minutes’ walk from the Stable. It’s a National Trust property and has two cafes. You can drive there but we enjoy the walk and sometimes extend it with a walk to Belan Locks and back along the Montgomery Canal

Towns to visit from Welshpool

Llangollen is a lively Victorian holiday town. Take a ride on the steam railway to Corwen, walk up to the Castell Dinas Bran, visit the ruins of Valle Cruces (Cadw), stroll along the canal to the horseshoe falls or take a horse drawn boat ride and enjoy the many places to eat and drink. We enjoy eating an ice cream on the bridge looking over the Dee and watching the canoeist hurl themselves down the rapids.
