***We are monitoring the Covid-19 situation and hope to open more dates soon*** Stay in a 20m2 geodesic dome in a secluded location in rural Northumberland. With a wood fired hot tub, fire pit, and deck with beautiful views of the pond and surrounding trees, it's a perfect spot to relax, unwind and get back to nature. The site is completely off grid - water in containers, solar power, and composting toilet. We believe this makes the site special, offering a unique back-to-basics experience.
Our ethos is to provide a simple but comfortable, tranquil space to 'unplug' from the modern world, with a minimal impact on the surrounding nature so that it can be enjoyed. Please read our description fully before booking to ensure that our dome and site is perfect for you. Satori dome is located on a working farm alongside a large pond. Spend your time watching wild ducks and swans through the panoramic bay window, or explore North Northumeberland before heading back to your site for a soak in the outdoor Japanese soaking tub, whilst star gazing from the deck. Our dome is set up for 2 people with a double bed and Eve© memory foam mattress (bedding is provided.) LED battery fairy lights and lanterns provide mood lighting inside and outside the dome at night, and logs are provided for the wood burning stove and fire to keep you cosy when it is cold outside. Outside on the deck is a gas BBQ for cooking and inside there is a worktop and sink set up for prepping simple meals and washing up dishes (plates, cutlery and utensils provided.) A camp stove and kettle is also provided if you wish to boil water for teas and coffee. A leisure battery powers a small 24 Litre electric cool box to keep food items cool. The battery also has a USB port to charge your devices. Our simple off-grid sink is setup with a 25 litre container of fresh spring water and hand pump tap for washing up. Your outdoor hot tub will be filled with fresh spring water for your arrival. It can be used 2-3 times and takes 2-4 hours to heat up (depending on the weather/season), and will usually stay warm overnight. Please note that in keeping with our ethos of having a low impact on the surrounding nature, soaps are NOT allowed to be used in the tub because of the harm they could cause to the aquatic life of the pond when the tub is drained. We do not (yet) have a shower at the dome, for most people this is not a problem as the hot tub water is clean and does not contain any chemicals, and makes you feel fresh afterwards. The Eco friendly composting toilet is set back from the dome. Whilst it is basic, please be assured that it is both clean and civilised :)
The site is rural (no postcode and the closest neighbours are sheep), but is not far from a main road with easy access to the market towns Wooler (10 mins), Alnwick (20 mins) and Berwick-upon-Tweed (30 mins), as well as the stunning coast (40 mins). There are plenty of local pubs and shops within an approximate 10 minute drive. The location is great for those seeking to explore Chillingham Castle, The Cheviot hills, Ingram Valley, Bamburgh Beach and many other spectacular locations.

Situated at the bottom of a private drive in a quiet, picturesque and romantic location in the National Park under the darkest skies in Europe. The apartment boasts an incredible large open plan lounge, fully fitted kitchen and outstanding panoramic views. Double bedroom with a roll top bath and ensuite bathroom. Accessed via a separate entrance through a beautiful glass atrium with amazing views. Designed for pure relaxation and not suitable for party animals, children or pets.
The apartment sits on the first floor of a very unique building, has wonderful high ceilings and a huge open plan lounge. The house is called ‘The Library’ as it was originally used to house a collection of books for the lady who owned the buildings. There are three remaining book cases which where fitted in the 1940’s and these are shown in some of the pictures. The apartment has its own entrance and is entirely self contained and not shared with anyone. There is a garden at the rear of the house and this can be shared with other guests in the Little Star apartment.
We are in the National Park which is an area of outstanding beauty. It's tranquil, picturesque and there is no light pollution. The village pub called the Holly Bush is less than 10 minutes walk away. This is open every night from 4pm and and all day at the weekend. Food is served every night but please check the times as they vary with the seasons. Kielder observatory is 30 minutes away. There are wonderful walks straight from the door and terrific bike trails at Kielder. Hadrian’s wall, Rothbury, Alnwick and the coast are all accessible for day trips. Hexham and Corbridge are just 30 minutes drive. There are shops and a garage including a chemist and supermarket in Bellingham which is just a 10 minute drive.

Library of both modern and vintage books. Access to 1st floor bedroom and open plan bathroom via a traditional loft style staircase with thick pile carpet. The bedroom has a De-Luxe King sized bed(and a single bed) with feather and down quilt and pillows, crisp cotton sheets and ample space for clothes and shoes within a walk in wardrobe. A luxurious, light bathroom area with all glass shower cubicle, his and hers contemporary washbasins and WC.
No need to get back in your car once you arrive, we are surrounded by streams, rivers, waterfalls, woods, open fields and The Dales. In the book - 501 wild places to visit - the only walk in England is the Sir Isacc Tea trail, which runs behind our grounds - we truly are in an area which has been designated as outstanding natural beauty.

"Quarry Barn is a Luxury Barn Conversion" great views and super location. Both Cottage and Barn are just inside Northumberland.
Our cottage is detached from the main residence. One small well behaved dog welcome. Not suitable for infants only two adults. No WiFi through modem but 3g and 4g work well on your phone. The stairs are steep but manageable.

The bustling harbour and shops are within walking distance, as is a sandy beach, whilst a few minutes' drive brings you to historic Warkworth, with its medieval castle, charming shops and pubs all serving good food. Comfortably furnished, this bright cottage offers two bedrooms, one double and one bunk and a bathroom with a bath for those long soaks after a tiring day on the beach. There is also a shower. A small fitted kitchen and bright sitting room with woodburning stove, TV with freeview and DVD player, books, board games, DVDs and wifi complete this pretty cottage. Why not take a trip Alnwick Castle and Gardens, or discover one of the many coastal walks taking in a pint and a crab sandwich somewhere along the way, the golden beaches are endless and waiting to be discovered. This Amble cottage is perfect for exploring Northumberland and the surrounding area.
I moved to Amble by the Sea five years ago and I just love it! Here are just a few things; 1. A proper working harbour with sea going boats..when they land the fish, gulls whirl about to see what they can steal and there’s a beach to meander on. There are boats for hire to see Coquet Island..a bird sanctuary about a mile off the coast ...or for fishing trips, at the Harbour too. 2. A lovely, picturesque Marina to have a walk around with a nice bar, with views going up to Warkworth one way and down to the pier the other. Great place to take sunset photos. 3. Last year, Amble won the best coastal High Street. We have a great selection of shops and , at a time when some High Streets are declining, we’re expanding. 4. The Pods..these are upended boats made into little, cute craft and artisan shops. Located at the Harbour, round the corner from the cottage. 5. Great restaurants on the doorstep! No taxi required. The Boatyard has won awards for the last 2 years as the best fish restaurant in the U.K. 6. A good selection of pubs and coffee shops. A new cafe bar has just opened at the Harbour serving terrific food. 7. Lovely walks..by the sea or in the country..Amble is also very cycle friendly..hire bikes are available locally. Kayaks and surf/paddle boards are also available for hire. 8. Golden beaches that stretch for miles...even in the Summer you can find stretches of beach with no one else there! 9. Lots of local picturesque villages..castles..secluded bays..nice pubs..great restaurants..all within a few miles of Amble by the Sea. 10. And ..the greatest Northumberland foible...you can’t go anywhere without people saying ‘hello’ to you. Amble by the Sea isn’t called ‘the friendliest port’ for nothing!

Due to the central location historic Berwick, and the castles of Alnwick and Bamburgh are all within 30 minutes drive. As is popular Seahouses for harbour-front fish & chips.

-St Bede at The Old Mill is located in the small hamlet of Littlemill, four miles north east of Alnwick. -Please be considerate when entering & leaving the hamlet to your fellow neighbours, both human & animal ! -The cottage is situated halfway between Alnwick & Craster so is perfectly placed for guests to visit the fantastic coastal spots, castles & stunning Northumberland National Park which are all within easy travelling distance by car. -Craster on the beautiful heritage coastal route is only 2.5 miles away, the picturesque fishing village is world famous for it's smoked kippers & the glorious walk from it's harbour to Dunstanburgh Castle. -Howick Hall Gardens are nearby & well worth a visit, with banks of rhododendrons, camellias & magnolias in the springtime. -A visit to Holy Island, which is reached via a tidal causeway & is famous for the Lindisfarne Gospels, is a must. -Don't forget the pretty village of Bamburgh with its majestic castle overlooking the expansive sandy beach. -Alnwick Castle & Garden, with its spectacular grand cascade waterfall & tree house restaurant, are 4 miles away. St Bede & The Old Mill-A potted history. -As the name suggests The Old Mill was once a water mill & the remains of the mill wheel can be seen at the rear of the property. -If you look to the left while facing the building you will see a field which was once the site of a medieval village known as 'Little Houghton'. Corn mills were a common feature of such villages, so it is likely that a mill has stood at this location since this time. The name 'Little Houghton' was later reused & today there is a nearby village known by the same name. The earliest the mill buildings appear on a map is around 1820. -The lime kiln (Grade 2 listed) on the opposite side of the road approaching the hamlet of Little Mill would have been a large local employer when in use. Extraction started in the 18th century & it was one of the largest in the country with it's own railway siding. The limestone was burnt with coal to produce quicklime for use in fertiliser & mortar. -There was once a railway station at Little Mill (1847 to 1965), families from Gateshead & Newcastle enjoyed holidays in nearby Craster, alighting at Little Mill & walking with their luggage the two miles down to the coastal village. -The Old Mill building was derelict until purchased from the local land owning Howick family in the late 1980's & was subsequently bought by an order of the Catholic church known as the 'Helpers of the Holy Souls' & run by nuns as a retreat. Local legend has it that Maxine Carr, accomplice to the Soham murders, resided here on her release from prison under a new identity. -The two smaller cottages (known as 'hemmels'), St Bede & St Cuthbert were once the home of farm animals but were converted in 2001. In fact, the word 'hemmel' means a simple shelter in a field for cattle or hay. -The current owner bought the house in 2007 & in 2017 extensively renovated the property to make the accommodation more comfortable as well as securing the fabric of the building & outlying grounds for future generations. -Please 'like' our page on the 'Book of Face' in order to be kept up to date with all things with regard to St Bede & Northumberland.

Priory Cottage is a quirky, stylish and comfortable cottage with a wood burning stove and a private entrance. This luxurious five star-rated property provides the perfect place to escape to and enjoy the peace and quiet. Situated on the banks of the River Coquet, this semi-detached property is part of the historic Brinkburn Estate and was originally of the groom's accommodation and hayloft.
Priory Cottage is part of the historic Brinkburn Estate in Northumberland. It is a semi-detached stone built property, traditional in style but boasts a modern, luxurious interior. It is ideally situated in the heart of Northumberland with easy access to the coast and Castles, Cheviot Hills, Northumberland National Park, and Hadrian's Wall. All our guests also have access to 30 acres of wood land the river and fields. Brinkburn Priory and Manor House are also just on your doorstep. The spacious living area has a dining table and chairs and large comfy sofa. There is a flat screen Smart TV and a library of books. Free SUPERFAST BROADBAND is available. The whole of the ground floor is heated by underfloor heating, enhanced by an efficient wood burning stove for the cooler months, for which an initial supply of logs are provided There is a contemporary style kitchen with electric oven and ceramic hob, larder fridge with icebox, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, espresso coffee machine, toaster and kettle. A highchair is available for an infant upon request. A spacious 'wet room' shower room, comprising a large walk-in shower with ceiling-rose shower head, toilet and wash hand basin is also downstairs. Complimentary toiletries and towels are provided. Upstairs is the former hayloft which makes a delightfully quirky and romantic loft bedroom, with a kingsize bed and chest of drawers. There is a raised platform, perfect for storage of luggage. A wardrobe with hanging space is located in a walk-in cupboard next to the bathroom. A cot can be provided upon request for an infant not yet walking (the stairs of the cottage are not suitable for a toddler). For those with impaired mobility there is the possibility of providing a bed downstairs.
Priory Cottage is located in a secluded wooded ravine, on the bank of the River Coquet. The 12th Century Brinkburn Priory is on your doorstep, as are lots of beautiful walks on the Brinkburn Estate. This is a rural location, 800m from the public road. There is lots of wildlife to enjoy, from kingfishers, otters, and salmon in the river to wonderful night time skies. Longframlington is 5 minutes drive away and boasts an award-winning shop, artisan bakery and coffee shop, a butchers and a pub. Rothbury is 10 minutes away by car, where you will find banks, a Post Office, Doctor’s surgery, pharmacy and vets– as well as lots of shops and pubs. We are also just 10 minutes away from the beautiful National Trust property at Cragside. There are plenty of good restaurants, pubs and coffee shops near-by, but please be aware that you probably need a car to reach them.

Set on a working sheep farm, Ben’s Hut offers a double bed with the option of a single bunk above, giving a 2+1 format. There is a shower room and a small kitchen area with a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. Wool-based insulation and central heating keep the hut warm and welcoming at any time of year. Thing to see include:- Beamish Museum (a must see!!), The Roman Wall, Durham City, Kilhope Lead mining Museum, The Metro Centre (shop 'til you drop). The C2C cycle track is also very close.
This is a shepherd's hut, with central heating and a bathroom, on a real sheep farm !!!
Things to do. Using Derwent Grange as a base, there are a large number of attractions and places of interest to explore in the North East of England. Perfect for two, the Old Mill is a modern, cosy and eclectic conversion of 1700s water mill near the Royal Burgh of Lauder. This romantic bolthole is spacious and inviting - it's somewhere you can slow down and retreat from busy lives. Soak in a deep bath or rainforest shower, enjoy Meraki spa products, warmth from the woodburning stove, drink good coffee, cook, bake, read, or simply relax in the space around you. Edinburgh is just 40 mins away; most of the Scottish Borders is within 20 mins.
Dod Mill’s old, industrial water mill has undergone a thoroughly modern redesign as a rural escape for two. It’s unique and stylish interiors, thick stone walls, spacious living space and mezzanine bedroom with feature bath make this a wonderful place to retreat from day-to-day life. The Old Mill retains many original features including the stable-style door at the entrance. You’ll pass through the porch into the large and open living space on the ground floor. The kitchen and dining areas open out into a double-height living space with a huge woodburning stove as the focal point of the room. Decorated throughout in Farrow & Ball, the space is light yet cosy with soft grey painted floors (underfloor heating), interesting fabrics and handmade shutters. The living area has a large sofa-bed (add guests on request), a thick vintage Moroccan rug, and some interesting decorative touches like a French balloon mould and antique chapati rolling pins. You’ll find a TV with Freesat (all standard UK channels), a DVD player, board games and a selection of books and maps. WiFi is available throughout the property. The rich aubergine-coloured kitchen is equipped for relaxed, holiday cooking. It has a sociable kitchen island, fan oven, 2-ring hob, dishwasher, a large fridge-freezer, kettle, toaster and a Nespresso machine for those in need of their daily caffeine fix. You’ll find artisan-made mugs, crockery, cutlery and glassware, as well as a cake stand, wooden boards and a good selection of serving platters and dishes. The large oak-topped dining table seats 6 so there is plenty of space to spread out, or invite friends over from other properties at Dod Mill (or in the area). You can also ask for the table to be extended to 12 if you’d like to entertain a larger group while staying in the Old Mill. Head upstairs to the mill’s original mezzanine floor, now converted to a bedroom. The super-comfy bed is king size and is made-up with anti-allergy bedding and pure Egyptian cotton linens. Have a long soak in the bedroom’s roll top bath, with Meraki spa-style products. The bath’s big enough to share, or enjoy on your own with a good book and a glass of wine. The en-suite shower room has a rainforest-style shower, soft-scented Meraki soap, shampoo and conditioner plenty of soft, fluffy towels. There is an additional “downstairs loo”. Head out the door by the woodburning stove and you’ll find an outdoor table and chairs and a small woodland garden area.
Old Mill sits within Dod Mill, a unique and interesting historic site in the Scottish Borders near Lauder. For over 300 years, this was home to an industrial water mill where wheat, barley and oats were milled. There is also a kiln house where the grain was dried before milling. Dod Mill is 4 miles from the Royal Burgh of Lauder - which has fantastic amenities for visitors. There is a gorgeous little deli, The Spotty Dog, a lovely fruit & veg shop, The Purple Plum, art gallery / coffee shop, pubs, bakery, post office, petrol station and small supermarket (Co-Op). Lauder is completed with its own fairytale castle (Thirlestane Castle). The Old Mill at Dod Mill is also very close to wonderful Scottish Borders towns and historic sites. Melrose, Kelso, St Boswells, Duns and Galashiels are all within 20 minutes and each have a rich history and you can enjoy lots of local festivals. Some of the grandest houses in Scotland - Floors Castle, Mellerstain House, Manderston House, Abbotsford (the home of Sir Walter Scott) and Thirlestane Castle - are between 5 and 20 minutes drive away. Melrose Abbey, Kelso Abbey and Dryburgh Abbey are also each within 20-25 minutes. Other places of real note include the home of tartan, Lochcarron Visitor Centre, and the Borders Distillery & Visitor Centre (whisky and craft gin). The Borders has a number of superb festivals and events over the year, including the acclaimed Borders Book Festival, the Borders Art Fair, Tour of the Borders (cycling), the Great British Food Festival (at Floors Castle) to name a few. The Scottish Borders is a fantastic place for walking, hill walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing, country pursuits, arts, crafts and culture. Edinburgh is just 40 minutes drive away, and has so much for visitors to see and do. It makes for an easy day trip or two during your stay.

Heather View has the added bonus of being dual aspect in every room in the house, so that means there's plenty of natural light and a feeling of space. The Stables is part of the historic Brinkburn Estate in Northumberland. It is a semi-detached stone built property, traditional in style but boasts a modern, luxurious interior. It is ideally situated in the heart of Northumberland with easy access to the coast and Castles, Cheviot Hills, Northumberland National Park, and Hadrian's Wall. All our guests also have access to 30 acres of wood land the river and fields. Brinkburn Priory and Manor House are also just on your doorstep. The main entrance leads into a spacious yet incredibly cosy lounge, with comfortable sofas and a magnificent wood burning stove (wood provided). There’s a large screen smart TV with digital channels and SUPERFAST Broadband. Situated between the lounge and the kitchen is a spacious, bright and airy dining room with a table seating up to 10. It overlooks the pretty patio area and woodland beyond. There’s some beautiful exposed stone walls and solid oak floors with underfloor heating. Open plan from the dining room is a magnificent kitchen/family room with a high beamed ceiling and full height windows. A glazed door leads directly onto a large patio. The kitchen is stylish and contemporary, comprehensively equipped with all the usual appliances; electric ovens and induction hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, Dolce Gusto coffee machine and Quooker boiling hot water tap. There is an efficient wood burning stove at one end of this large room, complimenting the underfloor heating, and comfortable cream leather sofas for informal gathering. There is a library of books for all ages and tastes. A beautiful and recently re-furbished master suite boasts a super-kingsize bed and luxurious fixtures and fittings. This bedroom comes with a stylish en-suite bathroom; fitted with both bath and shower. There are a further two double bedrooms – one of which can be set up as either a twin or a super-king. Longframlington is 5 minutes drive away and boasts an award-winning shop, artisan bakery and coffee shop, a butchers and a pub. Rothbury is 10 minutes away by car, where you will find banks, a Post Office, Doctor’s surgery, pharmacy and vets– as well as lots of shops and pubs. We are also just 10 minutes away from the beautiful National Trust property at Cragside. There are plenty of good restaurants, pubs and coffee shops near-by, but please be aware that you probably need a car to reach them.

The Arches is an attractive stone barn conversion providing excellent self-catering holiday cottage accommodation. The Arches lies within the heart of the picturesque village of Otterburn. Otterburn is situated on the edge of the Northumberland National Park on the A696, being a perfect overnight stop for those en-route to and from Scotland and for guests attending the various wedding venues at Woodhill Hall ( approximately 1 mile), Le Petit Chateau ( approximately 250 metres) and Otterburn Castle Hotel (approximately 300 metres). This charming two-storey cottage, comprises a one master bedroom with a king size bedroom and feature beams to the ceiling with an ensuite shower room to the first floor. To the ground floor living area there is a fully equipped solid oak kitchen with a spacious dining area, perfect for entertaining. Leading of the open plan kitchen there is a wood burner within the living area which is perfect for cosy country evenings in front of a roaring fire. The Arches forms part of the owners larger property ‘Sunnybrae’ but is completely self-contained providing an ideal base for those wishing to explore the unspoiled and historic landscapes of Northumbria. Although the Arches is a one bedroom cottage, it does however have the facilities to sleep more upon request. Well behaved pets are welcome! Please advise on booking. Ideally your own car is the best way to get around. There are buses that run to Jedburgh and Newcastle but are fairly infrequent. Otterburn does however provide a good base point for walkers and cyclists looking to explore the Northumberland countryside. Otterburn Castle and the Border Reiver village shop (which stocks virtually anything and everything) are easily accessed on foot from the property. We will provide one basket full of logs for the wood burner. We will also provide some essentials, such as tea, coffee and sugar. Please just ask us for further information prior to your stay as we will try to accommodate for all guests as best that we can.

I am very close to Gateshead city center also Newcastle Quayside. 20 min walk will get you into Newcastle city center or if you prefer a 5 minute Metro ride as I am close to the Gateshead Stadium Metro Station. Gateshead Metro Centre is only 5 miles away by car or bus. And its very easy to get to from my home. The arena music venue is only 5 min Taxi ride away or you can get the metro from mine to central station which is 2 stops and it’s a 5 min walk from there or if you are feeling good it’s a 25 min walk from my door to the arena doors. The Bothy has its own walled-garden area with views to rivers, woodland, an orchard and rare-breed sheep. Cosy-in with a woodburning stove (unlimited logs!), drink good coffee, cook, bake, read, or simply relax in the space around you. WiFi, tea & Nespresso coffee included. Edinburgh is 40 mins away; most of the Scottish Borders is within 20 mins.
Dod Mill’s former barn, stables and pigsty - now The Bothy - has undergone a thoroughly modern redesign, as a rural escape for 1-4 guests. It's the place to come if you like stylish open-plan studio living within beautiful grounds. The large open plan living-kitchen-sleeping space is a wonderful place to be. It is very light and bright with lots of natural light from large windows and a sense of spaciousness coming from the double-height ceiling. The (new) master bedroom is on the mezzanine floor, which looks down on the ground floor living space. The focal point of the room is a large woodburning stove which comes with an unlimited supply of logs. The living area features a super-comfy sofa, a velvet armchair and a zig-zag "cocoon" chair - everyone will find their perfect place to chill-out. The flat-screen TV has all the UK channels you'd expect. You'll also find free WiFi (superfast broadband). There are board games, coffee-table books and cards to help you make the most of your down time. The cool kitchen is painted in Farrow & Ball colours and the dining table is big enough to seat 6 guests very comfortably. The kitchen is well equipped with beautiful artisan-made crockery, cutlery, glasses, wooden boards and serving dishes. You'll also find pots, pans, knives and cooking implements. There is a dishwasher, fan oven, hob, toaster, kettle, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine (some pods provided) and cafetiere. Tea and herbal tea is also provided. Above the kitchen, and new for 2020, there is a stunning mezzanine master bedroom. The new floor is accessed by a cool steel and timber staircase, with a glass balustrade. The king size bed can also be split into two single beds ("zip and link") so please ask about this if needed when you book. This room is up in the "eaves" of the building and you'll find it's a cosy place to chill out as well as to sleep. While the centre of the room has 2m of head height, the ceiling slopes down to the sides. The cottage is completed with a small but perfectly-formed twin bedroom leading into the shower room. The bedroom is painted in Farrow & Ball's Inchrya Blue. The twin beds have rustic headboards, reading lamps and cosy throws. The wardrobe has plenty of hanging space and shelves. There is enough space in the bedroom for a travel cot or travel toddler bed if required. The shower room is neat and compact, with shelving for each of the guests' personal items. Egyptian linen and fluffy towels are provided for all guests. If you would like to also use the sofa bed in the living space, we can supply bedding - please ask us! The huge glass window on the gable-end of The Bothy looks into a lovely walled garden area which is for your exclusive use. The garden looks out into the grounds of Dod Mill - apple trees and an orchard (apples, plums, hazelnuts, cherries), woodland, the Boondreigh River, a mill pond (with wild ducks!) and a few rare-breed sheep. There are also some wooden cabins dotted around the site. You are welcome to explore the grounds as much as you like during your stay. FOR THOSE WITH CHILDREN: note that the property itself is suitable for children but parents must be aware that there is fast flowing water nearby which is NOT fenced off. Similarly, the mill pond is accessible without passing through fences or gates. It is otherwise a wonderful place to bring children - with sheep which you can feed (on request), wild ducks on the duck pond, easy / short walks in the grounds of Dod Mill, apples to pick in the orchard, wildlife to spot, water to splash about in, etc.

Lauder is completed with its own fairytale castle (Thirlestane Castle). The Bothy at Dod Mill is also very close to wonderful Scottish Borders towns and historic sites. Melrose, Kelso, St Boswells, Duns and Galashiels are all within 20 minutes and each have a rich history and you can enjoy lots of local festivals. Some of the grandest houses in Scotland - Floors Castle, Mellerstain House, Manderston House, Abbotsford (the home of Sir Walter Scott) and Thirlestane Castle - are between 5 and 20 minutes drive away. Melrose Abbey, Kelso Abbey and Dryburgh Abbey are also each within 20-25 minutes. Other places of real note include the home of tartan, Lochcarron Visitor Centre, and the Borders Distillery & Visitor Centre (whisky and craft gin). The Borders has a number of superb festivals and events over the year, including the acclaimed Borders Book Festival, the Borders Art Fair, Tour of the Borders (cycling), the Great British Food Festival (at Floors Castle) to name a few. The Scottish Borders is a fantastic place for walking, hill walking, cycling, horse riding, fishing, country pursuits, arts, crafts and culture. Edinburgh is just 40 minutes drive away, and has so much for visitors to see and do. It makes for an easy day trip or two during your stay.

Riverside Cottage sleeps four and is a period self catering holiday property overlooking the River Coquet. Built by the Duke of Northumberland around 1895, it is set in the attractive Village of West Thirston in the heart of rural Northumberland. Sleeping up to four people in comfort and style, Riverside Cottage is the perfect location in the centre of Northumberland for your holiday.
This lovely period Cottage is situated in an idyllic rural village and offers views over the River Coquet, perfect for a relaxing, enjoyable stay. Just yards from the front door is the riverbank, with miles of beautiful riverside walks leading into the stunning countryside. The Cottage is accessed through a state of the art keyless entry system leading into the Entrance Hall. This simple system means you have the freedom to not worry about carrying keys with you during your stay. In the entrance hall you will find a corner storage unit and towels provided for you to dry down your pet, should you wish to bring one with you. The Cottage has full gas central heating and is fully equipped and includes high speed fibre broadband (Wi-Fi). The Entrance Hall leads into the comfortable and stylish Lounge. It has a beautiful traditional cast iron open fireplace with slate hearth with an original oil painting above it. A lovely three piece suite, oak flooring and traditional window shutters. There is a 40" LCD television with built in DVD player and Sky Freeview HD, BluRay Player and a collection of books, games and DVD's. The Dining Room has an original open grate fireplace with bread oven, wood surround and marble hearth. It comfortably seats four people and is complete with a drinks cabinet full of cut crystal glasses and a wine rack. The room benefits from a beamed ceiling and oak flooring, which adds to the character feeling. The Dining Room also has access to the outdoor seating area with BBQ facilities. The attractive modern Kitchen is fitted with a range of white wall and base units with wooden work surfaces. It has integrated appliances including an electric oven with gas hob and extractor hood, microwave, fridge and freezer, washing machine and family sized dishwasher. The kitchen leads to the downstairs cloakroom/WC. Upstairs the Master Bedroom has a lovely wooden double bed with matching bed side tables, a built in storage cupboard with hanging space and chandelier lighting. The room has two windows with traditional panelled shutters and window seats offering beautiful views over the River Coquet and the attractive bridges in West Thirston and Felton. There is also a chest of drawers/dressing table and wall mounted 19" LCD TV with freeview. The Second Bedroom has twin beds and a cast iron open grate fireplace and surround, a built in cupboard offering hanging space and a chest of drawers. Our bed linen is exceptional - the finest 100% Egyptian Cotton, all from the White Company. The modern Bathroom has a panelled bath with hand held mixer shower head plus electric shower over, shower screen, wash hand basin, low level WC, tiled walls and flooring, vanity mirror and heated towel radiator. There is on street parking available at the Cottage for the duration of your stay. There are no parking restrictions on any road or the bridge surrounding the property. There is also an off street parking area opposite the Cottage. Please note that one well behaved dog is welcome to stay at the Cottage.
Riverside Cottage was built around 1895 by the Duke of Northumberland. The area surrounding West Thirston and indeed the whole of Northumberland is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Village of West Thirston is separated from the village of Felton by the River Coquet that runs in front of the Cottage. Spanning the River Coquet are two bridges: Felton old bridge (pictured right) and Felton new bridge. The old bridge has now been pedestrianised and is scheduled as an ancient monument and as a building of architectural and historic interest. There is no definite date for this old bridge, but it or an even older bridge may have existed here since the 13th century. Whatever the date, it is a fine old bridge of three arches, Grade 2 listed, and widened at some time on the upstream side, probably in the 1800s. The new replacement bridge was built in 1926 and although not considered to be as attractive as the old bridge, it is itself a grade II listed construction. Even the telephone box next to the old bridge is grade II listed! Just over the bridge from Riverside Cottage is The Running Fox, a small, chic establishment nestled by the River Coquet. As well as offering it's own uniquely crafted cafe menu there is a new bakery on-site which serves a wide range of artisan breads, signature pies, traditional cakes and scones. The Running Fox is licensed to sell newspapers and also stock a small range of locally sourced produce and gifts from the surrounding Villages. Also within short walking distance of the Cottage are The Northumberland Arms which has undergone a stunning renovation and is already one of the top places to eat in Northumberland!

Yetlands Cottage is a cottage in the delightful Cumbrian village of Renwick. The cottage adjoins the owners' house, Thackmoor Nook, but has separate access. Parking is private and a few yards from the cottage front door. Dogs are welcome. The cottage has 150 excellent Reviews on Air BNB and 42 on Trip Advisor. The cottage also has the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence. The wood burning stove is easy to work, efficient and lovely to sit in front of. The M6 is about 20 minutes away.
The porch is suitable for walking/cycling gear. The living space has a wood-burning stove, sofa, armchair, dining table and chairs, TV and DVD player. The kitchen area has an oven, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, crockery, pans etc. Upstairs is the bedroom with king size bed, built in wardrobe and bathroom. In the bathroom is a shower and bath. The bedroom has plenty of space for a cot and we have a new travel cot (August 2019). Upstairs the original wood window beams can be seen. We provide enough fuel for the stove free. Pets are welome but we ask that they are not left on their own in the cottage and not allowed up on the furniture. We also ask that dogs are not allowed to foul the garden area. There is a country lane 20 yards from the cottage which many owners use for dog walking. Guests are welcome to use the garden, garden seats and the wild flower area. There are garden seats, great for relaxing on. In the garage we have a BBQ for guests use. This can be used in the lawn area which is accessed from your patio door. We make available fuel and lighting fuel and suggest a contribution of £3 in the honesty box. In the adjoining barn we have a cross trainer and gym bike which guests can use. We also have a table football game! The property is on the edge of the village and there is no through traffic passing by, making it very quiet and safe. Opposite us is a farm barn and field which has lambs in spring. Renwick is ideal for walking, cycling and relaxing. The cottage is close to the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Beauty. For both walking and cycling there is an excellent variety of routes immediately from the house such as Renwick Fell on the lower Pennines and the C2C is nearby. Sunset from Renwick Fell, looking across the Eden Valley to the Lakes is often stunning. We have 2 bikes that are available for guests at no cost. Dick and Kath, the owners, are keen on outdoor activities and can offer advice on routes. They also provide written guides for some local walks. The cottage has a customised OS map on the wall which shows the local area and centred on Renwick. We also provide an OS map of the area. We have a wide range of leaflets and books on walks and attractions in the area, including dog friendly walks, pubs and cafes.
This is a quiet, relaxing location on the edge of a small rural village. There is very little through traffic in the village and the small lane next to the cottage only leads to one house further down the lane. There are many walks in the area and before guests arrive we send a great deal of information about walks and the area. Dick and Kath are keen walkers and can also offer advice if needed on walks on the fells and on the roads, which are quiet and safe. Kirkoswald is 4 miles away and has a village shop (which also has coffee and sandwiches), doctors surgery and 2 pubs. The Fetherson Arms in Kirkoswald in 2012 won Pub Of The Season, in 2014 won Pub Of The Year and was a finalist for the Solway CAMRA Award in 2015. The Highland Drove pub in Great Salkeld has the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence. Kirkoswald won an award in the 2016 Britain in Bloom competition. In another mile Lazonby has a Co-op supermarket, post office and train station. Penrith has a large range of supermarkets like Morrisons, Sainsburys and Booths if you are coming south up the M6. There is a small Co-Op supermarket at Lazonby CA10 1BG 01768898210 (5 miles away) and if you are coming into Renwick from the M6 you will almost certainly pass through Lazonby. It is open 7.30-8 each day and 9-1 Sundays. It has a full range of groceries (meat, fresh bread etc.) and a Post Office. Kirkoswald has a small village shop which is open daily and Sunday, 4 miles away. If you get stuck, for instance for essentials like milk, knock on our door! The village shop at Kirkoswald and the Coop at Lazonby have ATM machines. The Church of England church in Renwick often has summer jams and marmalade with an honesty box – always scrummy! Penrith is 20 minutes travel and has a cinema and other services expected in a large town. There is easy access to the Lake District from the cottage and Ullswater is about 30 minutes drive. Hadrian's Wall at Birdoswald is also about 30 minutes drive. On the way is the small market town of Brampton. The present church is a splendid example of the work of the Pre-Raphaelites. This is the only church built by the architect Philip Webb and is adorned by an exquisite set of stained glass windows designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones and manufactured by William Morris.There is lots to do in the area. The large Celtic Stone Circle of Long Meg and her Daughters is nearby. There is a working watermill at Little Salkeld about 5 miles away which has an excellent cafe and you can see the mill working. A short and easy walk takes you to Lacy's Caves, beside the Eden where in the 18th century a local landowner stored his wine - sadly now gone! This is is a lovely walk along the side of the Eden and salmon can sometimes be seen. Otters have returned. The Settle to Carlisle train line stops at Lazonby about 5 miles away and makes a great day out, going across the Ribblehead Viaduct. Kirkoswald has a lovely church dating from the 12C. The RSPB site at Geltsdale is 25 minutes away and has Dark Sky Discovery Site status. Keswick has the Theatre by the Lake which has year round professional productions.

Within two miles of the historic town of Corbridge, this comfortable cottage is tucked away in a rural location with stunning views over the Tyne Valley. Despite its rural setting it is close to some excellent pubs and restaurants, and the market town of Hexham.
The cottage is attached to our farmhouse with a private entrance and enclosed garden, and is situated in just under an acre of grounds with many excellent walks and places to visit nearby. We are close to several key Roman sites in the area including Corstopitum and Hadrian’s Wall. Newcastle is 18 miles away and the stunning Northumberland coastline is only a little further.
Our cottage is situated above the beautiful Tyne Valley, and from your garden there are stunning views to enjoy over an alfresco lunch or evening drink. The enclosed garden is exclusively for the use of our guests and you are free to help yourselves to any garden produce in season including raspberries, blackcurrants and rhubarb. Our nearest village, Corbridge, has a multitude of lovely cafes and interesting shops to explore, not to mention several very good pubs and restaurants, all of which are listed in our cottage guide along with much other useful information.

The Waiting Room is a beautiful traditional-built stone bungalow on the site of the former Falstone railway station. South-facing double doors open into a secure garden, with views over the River North Tyne Valley. The Waiting Room is in the quiet and picturesque village of Falstone. -St Cuthbert at The Old Mill is located in the small hamlet of Littlemill, four miles north east of Alnwick. -Please be considerate when entering & leaving the hamlet to your fellow neighbours, both human & animal ! -The cottage is situated halfway between Alnwick & Craster so is perfectly placed for guests to visit the fantastic coastal spots, castles & stunning Northumberland National Park which are all within easy travelling distance by car. -Craster on the beautiful heritage coastal route is only 2.5 miles away. The picturesque fishing village is world famous for it's smoked kippers & the glorious walk from it's harbour to Dunstanburgh Castle. -Howick Hall Gardens are nearby & well worth a visit, with banks of rhododendrons, camellias & magnolias in the springtime. -A visit to Holy Island, which is reached via a tidal causeway & is famous for the Lindisfarne Gospels, is a must. -Don't forget the pretty village of Bamburgh with its majestic castle overlooking the expansive sandy beach. -Alnwick Castle & Garden, with its spectacular grand cascade waterfall & tree house restaurant, are 4 miles away. St Cuthbert & The Old Mill-A potted history. -As the name suggests The Old Mill was once a water mill & the remains of the mill wheel can be seen at the rear of the property. -If you look to the left while facing the building you will see a field which was once the site of a medieval village known as 'Little Houghton'. Corn mills were a common feature of such villages, so it is likely that a mill has stood at this location since this time. The name 'Little Houghton' was later reused & today there is a nearby village known by the same name. The earliest the mill buildings appear on a map is around 1820. -The lime kiln (Grade 2 listed) on the opposite side of the road approaching the hamlet of Little Mill would have been a large local employer when in use. Extraction started in the 18th century & it was one of the largest in the country with it's own railway siding. The limestone was burnt with coal to produce quicklime for use in fertiliser & mortar. -There was once a railway station at Little Mill (1847 to 1965), families from Gateshead & Newcastle enjoyed holidays in nearby Craster, alighting at Little Mill & walking with their luggage the two miles down to the coastal village. -The Old Mill building was derelict until purchased from the local land owning Howick family in the late 1980's & was subsequently bought by an order of the Catholic church known as the 'Helpers of the Holy Souls' & run by nuns as a retreat. Local legend has it that Maxine Carr, accomplice to the Soham murders, resided here on her release from prison under a new identity. -The two smaller cottages (known as 'hemmels'), St Bede & St Cuthbert were once the home of farm animals but were converted in 2001.
