Our immediate neighbourhood.

Located in an old village called Tha Kokwua (literally Ox Pier) on a back road, merely 2.5 km. from the River Kwai Bridge in a forest-like surrounding and only 6 km, from Kanchanaburi town centre.

Note: public buses and trucks run only on the main road (323 highway).

1. An easy stroll through a local area can also be made by crossing a bridge across the scenic River Kwai in a less touristic area.
2. The back road running pass the House is regularly used by local Thai cyclists due to its much less traffic and its country surrounding.
3. Public health office is on the opposite of the main road, and a 24 hour private hospital and a rescue centre can be reached in 10 minutes.
4. Opposite us is a small meditation centre run by Thai nuns and next to it is the village cluster of some 30 households. Local villagers run farm of small sizes that include lime, banana and pepper.
5. Beyond this is the Greater River Kwai dotted with fruit orchards and small settlements. The bridge across the river (but not that River Kwai Bridge) on the main road 323, about 500 metres from where we are, links us to another old village of our close neighbours.

Where to eat like locals.
Go explore food market in town, run from around 5 pm throughout the night. Feel like lazy? Walk or cycle 10 min. to a few chick restaurants on the river bank near us. Both Thai and western cuisines are served at this nicely designed cafe with spectacular views of the River Kwai.

Where to go for a nightlife scene as visitors?
Backpacker strip connecting to the Bridge over the River Kwai is a highlight for nighttime scenes in town. This is where you can find bars, pubs, restaurants, groceries, pharmacies and mini-marts. Even you are not a kind of late owl, you will simply find it fun to walk, look and see. About 4-5 km. from our house by taking a back road.

More experience as enthusiastic tourists.
Want to explore more of the River Kwai area? Go to the public park located by the River Kwai. Catch a truck into town, then just walk across another bridge passing the floating house tourist area. Enjoy a scenic backdrop of the picturesque limestone mountains over the River Kwai. Or maintain your fitness by jogging in the river front public park, amidst locals.
