Be at one with nature in this self-contained double storey eco-villa, which sits on the large 14 acre property of a Wellness Retreat & Farm Stay bordering a lagoon, river and within a short walk from the quiet local beach. A nature lover's paradise!
Enjoy the outdoor pool, kayaking, boat rides, practice yoga and indulge in Ayurveda treatments.
The Wellness Retreat also features a 4-bedroom bungalow, another 2-bedroom villa and two single chalets. The units can be booked together or separately.

Ambienti
The Back of Beyond Wellness eco-retreat boarders the river Urubokka Oya, with the estuary (modara, which the village is named after) just a few minutes by boat or foot. The secluded beach is just a 5-minute walk away - a lovely place to start and end your day.

We do not only share these beautiful 14 acres with peacocks but with countless other birds, as part of the land is reforested with over 100 trees planted to date. The rest of the land is reverted to a dry zone farm. Our orchard with nearly over 40 varieties provides most of the fruits and vegetables we serve our guests. We have also started a butterfly garden, creating a flower-, fragrance- and joy-filled patches around the land.

The eco lodge’s bungalow, cottage and villas are located to maximize interaction with the outdoors while maintaining individual privacy. In total there are 9 rooms for around 25 adults, all rooms have attached bathrooms with hot water and are equipped with mosquito nets. The units can be booked together or separately.

We have our own open-air yoga hall, a sea-sand restaurant, a tropical outdoor swimming pool as well as our own Ayurveda centre where we provide Ayurveda consultants with a traditional Ayurveda doctor, Ayurveda treatments and massages, thus making it an ideal retreat, also for yoga groups, meditation retreats, corporate training or family get-togethers.

To meet the needs of guests who stay longer, we have created two spacious self-contained villas with fully equipped pantry/kitchenette, close to the butterfly garden, swimming pool and sea-sand restaurant.

This lovely two-storey villa has two bedrooms for a total of 6 guests, a living space, dining room and kitchenette on the ground floor, and a lovely upper level for relaxation, work or as an extra sleeping space. On to one side, the estuary can be seen through the coconut trees, and on to the other the Urubokka Oya is flowing down to the sea. The real treat is to star gaze on a clear night.

* Back of Beyond Wellness Retreat is a dedicated space for holistic wellness. We have a dedicated Ayurveda Spa which offers all traditional Ayurveda treatments and massages as well as consultations with an Ayurveda doctor. You are welcome to indulge in Ayurveda massages and treatments throughout your stay with us. Please request the spa menu for more information.

* The yoga shala which looks out over the outdoor pool is a great open space for spending time on your practice. Our resident Yoga teacher would be happy to give you some classes too if you like.

* There are many indoor and outdoor spaces for relaxing and lounging within the property. The property has around 300 m of river frontage and kayaks are available for rental. The areas around the property and adjoining village roads are excellent for cycling and bicycles are also available for hire.

* A lovely wide and secluded beach is only a 10 minute walk from the property. Guests can help fishermen draw in their nets in the morning, or enjoy fishing in the nearby estuary.

* Mulgirigala Ancient Rock Temple is about 40 mins away and is a beautiful buddhist temple dating back to 2nd century. You can visit the temple and offer flowers to the buddha and the view from the top of the temple rock is stunning.

* The Kalametiya bird sanctuary is only 15 minutes from the property. The sunrise boat ride on Kalametiya bird sanctuary is not to be missed if you have the time. It is a magical experience!

* Udawalawe, Bundala and Yala National parks are also 1.25 hr and 2 hr from the property. We can organize an exciting wildlife safari for you if you are a lover of wildlife and would like to see elephants and other majestic wildlife in their natural habitat.

I am the founder of Back of Beyond - eco lodges in Sri Lanka.
Back of Beyond was an idea started due to my love for travel and nature, and the difficulty faced in trying to find suitable accommodation to suit my budget and taste.

I am based in Colombo but I travel frequently to my eco retreats in Sigiriya, Yala, Anuradhapura and near Tangalle. Hence, most often I do not get to meet the AirBnB guests, but you will be looked after well by the wonderful staff at the different bungalows.
