Life is an Adventure!
Ad Astra Per Aspera. "To the Stars through Difficulties"
A little about me, I'm in my 40's, and have traveled to over 20 countries around the world. I have a degree in International Business, with an emphasis on Hospitality.
One of my first adventures at around 10 years old, I went exploring through the Flint Hills with a friend and found a former underground Missile Base just a couple miles from my home.
Now close to 25 years later I own an Atlas F Missile Silo which we plan on converting into an Adventure Resort and nonprofit headquarters for the Ad Astra S.T.E.A.M. Institute.
Over the years I have worked as a Manager and Night Auditor at the Shelter City Youth Hostel in Amsterdam, The Keeter Center Lodge in the Ozarks near Table Rock Lake, and The Timberline Ski Lodge on Mt. Hood Oregon.
I do custom woodworking with my father who lives next door, as a day job. I enjoy building Fireplaces, Kitchens, ManCaves, and more. One of my favorite jobs to date was to build a custom Library for the Survival Condo Project, an Atlas F Missile Silo converted into a 15-floor, 55,000 sq. ft. underground condomium complex.
I love obstacle course racing, and have competed in NBC's American Ninja Warrior.

WELCOME: Hello! Thanks for your interest in Atlas Ad Astra Adventure Resort. We are your hosts, Matthew and Leigh Ann. We live on-site and enjoy hosting as a lifestyle. We are generally available to greet you upon arrival, and ensure that you are having a good experience throughout your stay. We often participate in the common campfire with our guests in the evening and enjoy all the fabulous conversations.
TENT CAMPSITES: We have 5 prepared tent camping sites measuring 12' x 12' with a deep bed of sand for your comfort. They range in distance from the parking area: a few steps or a 2 minute walk. We encourage you to bring spiral-type or heavy stakes and plenty of guy rope for your tent, as we are located in the Wind Belt, and there are often windy conditions. Each site has solar lighting and some trees. You'll be able to take your pick of the unreserved spots.
CAR/VAN CAMPSITES: If you are in a car or a van setup, we have a special area just for you.
TOILET: We have a biodigesting toilet facility which we share with the tent campers. We will show you how it works, and ask that you please make sure to follow the directions when using it.
MISSILE SILO TOUR: While you are here, you'll certainly want to join us for the one-hour, 5-star reviewed, Historical Silo Tour. It is one of the biggest draws for guests who stay here and we have heard many people say it is 100% worth the cost of admission. (check out the online reviews)
THE PROPERTY: Our property is about 24 acres and we have mowed over a mile of walking paths throughout. There are beautiful views in 360 degrees and it is a very peaceful and relaxing setting. We have lots of outdoor games and you're welcome to bring your own. We have several picnic tables you may use.
NOTE: Please keep in mind that there are several construction projects in-progress on our property. Please be mindful of where you are walking. This is a rural area (we are a registered ecotourism facility) and there is a variety of wildlife here: all kinds of birds, deer, racoons, possums, skunks, snakes, badgers and more. Be prepared for insects.
PETS: Dogs are welcome, but please pick up after them, and know that there are generally other dogs present on the property. If your dog isn't good with other dogs and people, please keep it on a leash. We also have a senior and mostly blind border collie named Buddy. As he's lost his vision, he's become more clingy and a little less sociable (especially with small kids and other dogs that are close to his face). He's friendly, just approach him gently, let him take the lead, and be mindful that he can't see much.
