This cosy 3-bedroom Colonial house is located a short drive or walk away from the beautiful and historic town of Rhinebeck with its charming restaurants, shops, indie cinema and farmers' market.

Head to beautiful Rhinebeck in upstate NY for cosy nights in front of the fire, and in summer BBQing, sunsets and chilling on the patio with friends and family. Swim in the town pool a 5 minute drive away, or at the Omega Institute lake, and enjoy the Dutchess County Fair.

Our upstate home is a cozy & tastefully decorated home for your country getaway. Conveniently set back from a quiet road in a 2.5-acre retreat, a few minutes drive to the charming Village of Rhinebeck. Four beds sleep up to 6 guests.

-Our home is to be enjoyed by the number of booked guests. No visitors.

-Please count your kids over 1 in the guest number.

Set back from the road by a short gravel drive, our home sits on 2.5 acres, backing onto farmland offering sunsets in the summer and is set on a picturesque, quiet, tree-lined road with a waterfall and a turtle crossing, popular with walkers and cyclists. Lovingly renovated with two decks (one side - one roof off the master bedroom), a stone patio with outdoor furniture, Weber BBQ and a fire pit, surrounded by mature shrubs, apple, white oak, maple and lilac trees.

Our home has gas heating and excellent insulation, but we also have a wood fire. We provide the first few days of fire wood and kindling for your convenience. If you stay in winter the house will be fully heated once you arrive.

In the summer we keep our home cool with 3 window ACs in the 3 upstairs bedrooms and provide fans downstairs which keep the downstairs sufficiently cool in the hot weather.

TV, Spectrum cable, Xbox 360 and fast wifi provided.

The house sleeps 6 guests in 3 beds; 2 queens and 2 twins. All are situated on the second floor. The master bedroom enjoys its own private en-suite bathroom with claw foot tub and a comfortable wooden bed from Room & Board. It also has a private deck. The second bathroom with tub and shower is situated off the landing. Furniture in the bedrooms is an eclectic mix of Room & Board, West Elm, IKEA with some antiques thrown in for good measure! Selection of children's books in the twin bedroom.

Bath towels & bed linen provided.

Half bathroom (toilet and sink only) situated off kitchen. Mud room with restored church pew for comfortable seating while removing muddy boots!

Designer kitchen with shaker-style cabinetry, local oak countertops and white farmer / butler sink. Equipped with Viking stove, microwave, dishwasher, electric kettle, GE fridge-freezer. Plates, cups, bowls, glasses, cutlery, bakeware, mandolin, electric whisk, mugs, various utensils & pans included. Also robot vacuum cleaner.

Solid oak dining table with Herman Miller chairs that seat six. Svan wooden high chair available for little ones (stored in basement - just ask).

Plentiful cookbooks - although Rhinebeck has many great eateries, we love to cook and entertain from home! Please enjoy Nigella, Nigel Slater and The Barefoot Contessa during your stay!

We also have a Weber Gas BBQ with one full tank and one spare provided - please refill one if you use both during your stay. Guests can also use the fire pit to make 'smores.

Wood burning fire with wood provided for guests in winter.
Sofa, two armchairs, oak desk with Eames antique chair.
TV with Spectrum cable and Xbox 360.
Board games and jigsaws.

Basement is unfinished and has a dirt floor - we do not recommend it for the elderly / infirm or small children! It houses the furnace, a Cave wine fridge, our library (please enjoy during your visit but be sure to replace - the books hold great sentimental value to us) and Philips Whirlpool washer and separate dryer. Be sure to use the plastic clothes basket to transport your clean clothes, even if it's moving clothes from washer to dryer - the floor is very dusty.

Outdoor wood dining table and chairs seats six for summer meals. Perfect place for yoga / meditation in summer.
Red hammock fixed to deck and maple tree for your enjoyment in the summer.

Fire pit & Weber gas BBQ as your outdoor cooking options on the patio. Outdoor sofa, IKEA white chairs x 4, plus umbrella.

Two steel & wood loungers with black mattresses. Blue bistro table and 2 chairs. Outdoor rugs x 2.

Provides very private sunbathing but floor is black rubber and gets hot in summer - flip flops advised!

PROPERTY / 2.5 acres
Back and front yards with mature shrubs and white oak, maple and apple trees. The backyard backs onto beautiful farmland (hay & cows- no chemical spraying). At the end of the day you can sit on the rear deck or swing in the red hammock enjoying a good sunset, the sound of the waterfall opposite, and the sight and sound of the cows lowing as they are taken in to be milked.

We get lots of wildlife - chipmunks, deer, wild turkey, a resident groundhog ("Arthur") and butterflies attracted to our butterfly bush, as well as beautiful birds such as cardinals, hummingbirds and woodpeckers.

Rhinebeck, New York, SHBA

Rhinebeck is full of cute shops, boutiques, has an old fashioned nickel and dime store Stickles, Samuels Candy Store, antique stores, an indie bookstore Oblong Books, and an indie cinema Upstate Films.

There are also two theaters, Rhinebeck Center for Performing Arts and the Calico Theatre. Next to Rhinebeck Center for Performing Arts is a tennis center.

Organic groceries, and great juices and smoothies, can be picked up at Sunflower Wholefoods in town (off Garden Street) or there is a Tops supermarket north of Rhinebeck on Route 9. A better supermarket is Adam’s Fairacre that’s a 15 minutes drive across the river in Kingston.

There is a weekly Sunday farmers's market in Rhinebeck (outside every Sunday spring through Thanksgiving; inside the Town Hall through winter) selling great fruit, veg and frozen meat, with same suppliers as those at Union Square. Raven and Boar supplies the meat to Gramercy Tavern.

Other farm stands open during the summer include Montgomery Place farm stand on route 9G (south of Bard, north of Barrytown – well signposted, Closed on Mondays) and Migliorelli’s farm stands (nearest one is at junction of River Road and route 199).

Our favourite restaurants in Rhinebeck include Le Petit Bistro (French), Market Street (Modern Italian), The Amsterdam (Modern American), Liberty (Modern American), Gigi Trattoria (Modern Italian), Terrapin (Modern American), Cinnamon (Indian), Osaka (Sushi), Village Pizza and Il Posto (pizzerias). Buns on Garden Street is great for grass-fed beef burgers and fries.

Bread Alone is great for morning coffee, home baked bread and pastries.

All That Java - seriously good coffee from a seriously small hut on 6579 Spring Brook Avenue (Rt 9) opposite Dutchess Co Fairgrounds.

The Beekman Arms (hotel and restaurant) is the oldest inn in America and the hotel rooms are charming. Chelsea Clinton had her pre wedding drinks here – Bill and Hillary stayed opposite us in our neighbour’s home for her wedding.

Rhinebeck has a recreation park 5 minutes drive away with a small charge for use of the two pools that have lifeguards and a small café in the summer. There is a playground next door, tennis courts, a basketball court, baseball pitch, new soccer field and the Starr library.

The Dutchess County Fairground is north on Route 9 in Rhinebeck. The Dutchess County Fair (with animals, fairground rides, food stalls etc) is usually at the end of August.

There is a great pilates studio Rhinebeck Pilates and Satya yoga studio on Montgomery Street in town.

The Omega Institute – famous for yoga, well being and meditation, with beautiful grounds and swimming lake. Rhinebeck outskirts – 15 minutes drive.

IXL is the nearest gym. Rhinebeck outskirts – 10 minutes drive.

Dinsmore Golf, third oldest golf course in America! Staatsburg – 7 minutes drive.

Mills Mansion – great for walks along the Hudson River and best place for sledding in the winter. Staatsburg – 7 minutes drive.

Antiquing – Rhinebeck Antiques Center, south on Route 9. 5 minute drive.

Antique auction. George Cole does estate sales on certain Saturdays throughout the year. Good fun with pizza and refreshments laid on and often plenty of bargains to be had. Red Hook – 15 minutes drive.

Vanderbilt mansion – Hyde Park – 15 minutes drive.

FDR’s birthplace, museum and Eleanor Roosevelt's home Val-Kill. Hyde Park – 15 minutes drive.

The Culinary Institute of America with its restaurants and weekend cooking courses, is south on Route 9. Hyde Park – 20 minutes drive.

Hyde Park drive in movie theater. Hyde Park – 15 minutes drive.

Gilbert Farm Recreation Center - mini golf and golfing range. Hyde Park – 18 minutes drive.

Samuel Morse’s home, Locust Grove. Poughkeepsie – 25 minute drive

Bard Summerscape hosts concerts, operas etc at the Fisher Center, the performing arts space designed by Frank Gehry. Annandale 20 minute drive away.

Bardavon hosts operas all year round, Poughkeepsie 25 minutes drive.

Ro – Lin Lanes, bowling alley. Red Hook – 12 minutes drive.

Red Hook Lyceum movie theater. Red Hook – 15 minutes drive.

Mercato trattoria (homemade pastas and great Italian red wines). Red Hook – 15 minutes drive.

Holy Cow Ice Cream. Red Hook – 15 minutes drive.

Various homes of the Hudson River School artists’, including Olana, home of Frederick Edwin Church, in Hudson – 35 minutes drive.

I'm a British TV producer / writer who lives with her husband and 2 kids during the week in a tiny apartment in NYC, and escapes at every opportunity to the beautiful town of Rhinebeck. We bought our upstate home in 2005 and gut renovated it. My goal is for you and your family to enjoy staying in it as much as we do.
