I'll welcome you with a welcome drink before we will discover an unbeaten area of Amsterdam: the Eastside. We will stop at 8 culinary hotspots where we will taste different locally-produced delicacies and hear explanations by the enthusiastic owners.
After a brief introduction, we will go alongside the river Amstel to the old village of Ouderkerk. Here we'll taste traditional Dutch cookies in the 120-year-old bakery with a nice coffee/tea. We'll pass windmills alongside the picturesque Amstel river.
Back to the Old East we'll take different foodie stops and short walks to learn about the area and the background of the Dutch delicacies.
We will taste the Dutch 'haring': a raw fish delicacy, real Amsterdam 'Osseworst': a raw meat delicacy that originates from 17th Century and some fried Dutch specialties (sweet and savory). We will have local produced drinks: waterkefir and kombucha.
We continue to a hidden gem to try local produced Jenever/liquor with real Dutch flavours. We’ll finish at a famous Amsterdam micro-brewery and try craft beers combined with locally produced cheese.
You will not go hungry! :-)
Other things to note
The food and drinks are all included. Optional extra snacks and drinks or souvenirs are for your own expense.
NOTE! With 1 guest we can do the tour, there will be a surcharge of 30,- euro (paid cash)

I am a traveler and a foodie living in the Old East part of Amsterdam. I have been working in tourism in Holland and in multiple countries abroad, from Latin America to Morocco. I have traveled and lived in many different countries. I love food—both tasting and preparing—and I love sharing about my life, living in Eastside Amsterdam and its hidden gems.

Miko, or as my autocorrect would like to change his name to “Mojo” :) was a excellent host to his city. His admiration for the culture was well articulated and received. We saw a lot of the city only he would know to take out of town guest. Be warned. Don’t eat a lot before you go. It’s quite filling and delicious! If you like food and excellent company go
For it!

We had a delightful afternoon with Miko. He took us to places—mostly on the east and southeast side of Amsterdam—that were beautiful, fascinating, and very different from any we’d seen during our four previous days in and around Amsterdam. Our favorite “tastes” were at the fish shop, where we sampled both fresh (herring) and fried (cod) fish. But we also very much enjoyed the meats, cookies, cheeses, pancake puffs, and beverages. With one other couple and Miko, the five of us proved to be a most congenial group. Thank you, Miko, for a most memorable foodie adventure. —-Elaine and Bill from Coos Bay, Oregon, USA

I visited Amsterdam for two days with a friend. Based on the positive reviews, we decided on Miko’s experience and it was AMAZING! If you are visiting Amsterdam - you MUST do this experience! You will not regret it! Since Miko is a born and raised local we accessed unique parts of Amsterdam that we would not of known about. This was an authentic experience that you will NOT find anywhere else. The food was out of this world - do not make lunch/dinner plans and come with an empty stomach. You will eat ALOT of very yummy food from local neighborhoods - no restaurant chains or expensive crowded restaurants. My favorite part of the trip was the host. Miko is VERY knowledgeable, professional, accommodating to foreigners, and proud of his culture. You feel as though you are spending the day with a good friend. He took such good care of my friend and I - we laughed a lot, asked many questions, learned so much, and listened to his stories. I loved that he drove us around areas that we would not have found on our own because it immersed us in the culture. I plan to return to Amsterdam again and hope that Miko is still doing this wonderful experience when I return! I could talk about how great this Tour way all day! Do not miss this tour!

A genuinely great afternoon with Miko.
Super-interesting storytelling and very welldesigned tour through Amsterdam's food- and city history. And our two sons were really excited driving around in a T2 VW Van - awesome coolness sitting in the front seat :)

The vintage VW van was fun, although being "of a certain age" I've ridden in them when they weren't yet vintage. The front passenger seat has the best view. Miko is very knowledgeable about Amsterdam's south and east neighborhoods, their history and the various waves of immigrants over the past several hundred years. Food tasting ranged from traditional, "natural" foods to modern snacks. I highly recommend the tour!

If you're on the edge about booking this experience- JUST DO IT!! My husband and I were in Amsterdam for 4 days and this was not just our favorite day, but our favorite thing we did. Miko was so warm, hospitable and so friendly- he is very knowledgeable about not just all the foods we eat, but Amsterdam's history and how it all ties in (all so yummy!). Be prepared for a relaxing afternoon enjoying and delighting in all the non-touristy gems of Amsterdam. Maybe even book this early on so you can explore them later on yourselves:) Thank you again for an amazing, delicious and memorable experience!
